Cocked and Loaded

MINISTRY’s new studio album, “Rio Grande Blood”, is on track for an April 2006 release via MINISTRY mainman Al Jourgensen’s 13th Planet label. Jourgensen recently told [url “http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1510689/20050929/ministry.jhtml?headlines=true”]MTV.com that he’s planning on finish working on the material for “Rio Grande Blood” by Christmas. At least three tracks have been completed at this point: two as-yet-untitled cuts and “The Great Satan”, which appears on the just-released “Rantology”, a collection of well-known MINISTRY tracks Jourgensen revisited and remixed to commemorate the band’s 25th year in the biz.

Jourgensen’s also planning on releasing an album in February from his 19-year-old side project, REVOLTING COCKS, called “Cocked and Loaded”. The disc will feature the talents of Jello Biafra (ex-DEAD KENNEDYS), ex-BUTTHOLE SURFERS frontman Gibby Haynes, ZZ TOP guitarist Billy Gibbons and CHEAP TRICK guitarist Rick Nielson. The disc will boast 11 tracks, including “Purple Head”, “Prunetang”, “Pole Grinder”, “Dead End Streets” and “Jack in the Crack”.

Both the MINISTRY and REVOLTING records will precede Jourgensen’s 54-date MasterBaTour, which is slated to kick off on May 5 in Houston and run through July 14 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; MINISTRY, the REVOLTING COCKS and Detroit-based goth-rock act SPYDER BABY are on the bill.

So “The Great Satan” is going to appear on Rio Grande Blood? That would suck.

“Cocked and Loaded” - named after the infamous 1990 tour diary?

I wasn’t aware of Al’s 13th Planet label - I take it the Ministry album will be its maiden release (or the Cocks album, since its release will come first)?

Looking forward to both I just hope there is some semblance of electronics on the Cocks LP. I’d like to think that “Prunetang” isn’t the blueprint for the whole thing.

Thanks for the info RevCo.

ZZ TOP guitarist Billy Gibbons

wow. really?

“Prunetang”

eeeeeeeeeewwww…

Interesting move and one that probably makes sense considering it was clear Ministry wasn’t going anywhere with Sanctuary.

called “Cocked and Loaded”.

original title. good to see the creative juices are still flowing.

A who’s who of has-beens if ever there was one.

The disc will boast 11 tracks, including “Purple Head”, “Prunetang”, “Pole Grinder”, “Dead End Streets” and “Jack in the Crack”.

Dead End Streets (?!!!?)

MINISTRY, the REVOLTING COCKS and Detroit-based goth-rock act SPYDER BABY are on the bill.

yeah.

I’m glad they changed the album title away from “Purple Head.” Aside from just sounding sort of dumb, I’m incredibly bored of the “classic album title pun.” Here’s to hoping that Rio Grande Mud is also just a working title. At least ZZ Top is a little more obscure than Pink Floyd or Led Zepplin.
That being said, I think it’s pretty keen that there’s some Cheap Trick folks on board. That should really add a whole different element to the band. Maybe there is hope for the new RevCo album. I mean, Prunetang sucked hard, but it did have a Zappa vibe to it.

ex-BUTTHOLE SURFERS frontman Gibby Haynes

Hang on - ‘ex-frontman’?? So they broke up???!?

I don’t think they “broke up,” but they’re still on that long, indefinite hiatus that they’ve been doing for nearly half a decade. This is the most recent interview I was able to find (it’s from the time that GH & His Problem got released):

"Will there be a new Butthole Surfers album with us any time soon? Or is that on permanent hold?

Gibby: I think we’re gonna definitely do one. As tired as it sounds it’s maybe like a real noise album, a Metal Machine Music, if you would. I don’t know, we’ll probably do that and then they’ll accuse us of trying to imitate a fucking Radiohead, or something. I’ve no idea. But I can’t see the Butthole Surfers really touring any time soon. I think we’re gonna get together though and make a really noisy record."

The whole interview is really pretty interesting (http://playlouder.com/feature/~drrockvsgibbyhay/?key=2248d2-207161), and on topic, it does feature him ragging on his new bandmate Jello.

A noise album? Sweet.

Am finding it hard to get excited about either of these releases.

Oh well, I’ve still got my copy of Filth Pig to keep me warm.

I’m looking forward to new cocks material. Linger ficken good kicked all forms of ass. Gotta get tickets still have been lazy.
