Don’t you guy’s think he would be great for new ministry? I think he’d be a nice mix of rieflin and washam (electro groove of Bill and live drum ‘bad assness’ of Ray) He could even update the tired programming side of ministry and shit his salary would prb be the same as in manson.
BTW It was Al and Paul who gave him the nickname ‘podboy’
He’s a major talent but even though I am a fan of Tweaker and all, his talent in the studio comes across more when he’s simply a contributor. Don’t think for a minute that he didn’t have a hand in some of NIN’s best material in the studio.
All that said, I hope he has something interesting on the horizon. He’s basically been on sabbatical for 5 years. I don’t count Manson.
I think his role in Manson was more to actually record the entire album. I was not impressed with the electronics on ‘The High End of Low’ but overall it’s not a terrible album.
We’ll see about sabbatical when the new Manson drops. I’ve heard rumors that it’s pretty fucking heavy. I don’t think he was too involved in The High End Of Low, and if he was that’s an embarrassment. It had it’s moments but that was by far the worst Manson album ever. Eat Me Drink Me was nowhere near as bad.
Chris would be a good addition to Ministry. I think he could keep the nu-metal down, add drums and maybe even keys. I’m sure he’s a fan and could bring back an older sound to the mix. To bad Tweaker hasn’t put anything out recently. I really liked the first cd. Second one was okay.
Yes Al definitely needs a producer. Someone who is familiar with “classic” Ministry. And by that I mean if someone pushes him to make a new record similar to ‘Land of Rape and Honey’. I wouldn’t count on Chris Vrenna to keep Al from straying into numetal territory…
Also I thought Manson’s ‘High End of Low’ was better than ‘Eat Me Drink Me’ because there was at least more variation between songs…
i have been saying for a LONG time i would rather Al pick up NIN drop-outs and cast-offs than some of the kids hes been making crappy music with for a while.
and thats saying something, i really dont like NIN.
as far as Manson, the guy is a hack, and a child. the moment the mainstream started selling him as an intellectual it became clear how wildly uninteresting he really is. guys like him get by when they have only a little exposure, and thus look like they are actual intelligent interesting guys who just happen to be weird. but the moment they saturate themselves and he does interview after interview trying to sound pained and lofty… thats when you can see how shallow and empty his adolescent anger really is.
that being said, Holy Wood is actually pretty cool, and there are a few songs on some of his older albums that i can dig.
It would be pretty groovy if Chris were involved in the new album and live line up. Like everyone said before it’s really hard to notice any of his involvement in the last Manson record(which was piss) but if he can add something more than rehashed metal ideas then I’m all for it. I just wish keys and programming mattered in Ministry again. Danny Lohner would be a good idea too…
Yeah and with Adam, Danny makes up Skrew (luxa/pan produced 3 tracks from the first record) Adam recorded alot for Animos…though was only feat. on title track. Anothr thing is that i don’t think trent gave Chris the credit he truly seserves all ex live/studio people say that plus look at the NIN material without Chris ('99 an up)

As opposed to everyone on here The Fragile is my favorite NIN album but I always wondered what it would sound like with Chris on board. The first tweaker album had kind of similar textures to it, sort or like they were in the same mindset but working separately. Before Chris came in NIN was kind of lighter and same when he left so maybe that was the element he brought. You know kind of more vibe and influence rather than performance or writing.
Actually Chris was there since the very beg. demos ect.(he was the drummer for ‘the exoctic birds’ with trent in '87) i even feel that alot of Chris’s stuff was used on the fragile as he did’nt quit till '97 it just went uncredited so with teeth and up
Trent and Al are essentially the same when it comes to crediting parts written.
You don’t have to hear two sides to figure that out, proof is in the pudding: Danny has contributed a lot to the Underworld soundtracks, Chris does the same but also with Tweaker, and let’s not forget Charlie Clouser, who is basically a film score guy now.

I always knew he was there for live stuff but I also kind of figured that the producers from pretty hate machine had more pull than either Richard or Chris. Plus he’s actually credited with some performance and programming in broken/fixed and that’s when the more menacing stuff showed up.
