I just bought Chris Connelly’s Solo projects from Amoeba. Thank god I paid cheap for them. This is a joke right?? I bought 'Shipwreck" and “Stowaway”. Is this guy for real?? The whole album sounds like some shit you would hear on a sesame street greatest hits album. I don’t get this guy’s genius. Somebody wanna clue me in?

i don’t get his solo stuff either. seems really weak to me. he was a great vox guy for revco though.

So utterly and completely agreed!!! I put it in and thought it was a bad pressing. You know like buying a motley crue CD or something and having the actual music on the Disc be Like Milli Vanilli or something. But NO! I put in “Stowaway” and it was the same crap! I couldn’t help but laugh! Oh Well! It was 10 bucks well spent if for only the laugh!
OT: I’m kinda worried right now. I just bought an old PTP CD from great Britian and I didn’t even think about the “War on TERRA” that W has going on right now. They may confiscate my CD cause it’s coming in from out of the country!!! they’ve been running news stories about how old people are getting their letters opened from Pen Pals from outside the country!! I Hope I didn’t just waste 10 bucks. Damn that blows!!

If Chris Connelly is a ‘genius’ then I’m Mama Krishna. With bells.
Does this guy even have a career these days? Or should we expect to see him manning the tills at Tesco’s this coming summer?
P.S Revco suck. Deal with it. And move on.
It’s David Bowie-ish folky stuff. Which is not bad, if you like that sort of thing.
I dig it. It’s not for everyone, but hey.
Yeah, I prefer Fini Tribe, or even Damage Manual, but this doesn’t piss me off in any way. Let the dude be weird if he wants. Just maybe put a warning on the album or something to this effect: “I’m not Revco, and this doesn’t sound like Ministry. Sorry.”

If you are into hardcore metal or industrial, then stay away from Chris. I always felt that Phenobarb Bambalam was his best work. His cover of Tom Verlaine’s “Souvenir From A Dream” is classic.
Start there and work your way back.
I will say that there has been a significant drop off in his work since the first Bells album.

Winner… Loser… and filth pig like you turning the wheel…
Grrrrmf… an industrial wannabe Chris would be the laughable one for me.
Oh, no, I was trying to say I DO like it. I’m into the whole Current 93-style neofolk, even though it is overly dramatic. As a matter of fact, “A Mutual Friend” has made it’s way back into my top five favorite tracks for the moment. I was just saying that people are going to pick it up simply because of his involvement with Ministry, and they’ll prolly be disappointed. Or baffled, as it were. I do have to admit, however, that Fini Tribe appeals a little more to my sensibilities, as I’m more into the electronic side of things than the whole thrash dealie.
Fuck Chris Connelly.
Fuck Chris Connelly.
I’m really seriously wondering why you say this.
Saw Chris live after the Whiplash Boychild release. Hate to say that the live show was more boring than the release. Then came Phenobarb Bambalam…
[pirate]God help us.
How strange. Am I the only Connelly fan here? I can’t say that I’ve liked everything Chris has ever put out, but pretty much most of it. His solo stuff is very different from Revco, but equally good. Whiplash Boychild and Phenobarb Bambalam both have that Wax Trax feel. I still spin each of those once every couple months. Parts have a very Bowie sound to them, but they’ve got more than enough Chris in them to avoid being a Bowie-clone. Try his solo stuff out in a sequential order. Or, if you can’t stand something more mellow, you could always try out Fini Tribe, Damage Manual, Pigface, or any of the otherbands he’s worked with that sound closer to the Revco/Ministry vein.
Yeah, it’s weird, I thought a lot of people liked him here. I don’t like all of his stuff either, but some of it’s pretty good. “July” is an awesome song I could never get sick of.
I like Chris’ solo stuff…Candyman Collapse, july, Come Down Here, Stowaway…not much else. I prefer his Industrial work.
saw him in 95 with tucker…i also met chris. Asked him about Al & Ministry and he said he was done with them. very cool night [:)]
If I had to listen to any straight-acoustic folky shiz, the only shit I could acutally stand is Beck, Chris Connelly, Bob Dylan, and David bowie. Aside from them, I normally hate that stuff. Chris Connelly has an excellent singing voice, and even though his Revolting Cocks and Damage Manual work is the best, I definitely dont mind listening to his softer stuff. I just wish hed get darker and creepier/moodier with it, like the stuff he does with Pigface and that one song of his Ignition Times Four.
