Chris Connelly - Artificial Madness

[reply]The highlight of the album is ‘Compatibility’; a seriously fucking cool song with the best guitars, bass, and drums & perc. It clocks in as the longest but weathers well. Connelly goes high on this one and I think it’s maybe his best vocal on the album.

Have you heard the original 1981 version by Visitors?

Sweet, didn’t know it was a cover.

It’s great fun and it does pretty much what Connelly said it was going to do.

It starts in excellent fashion; 3/5

I’m still laughing!!! Could you lick his ass anymore, fanboi?

Took a bit of digging online but I found all 3 of their 7"'s (Visitors) in 128/160 mp3. If you like that early post-punk kinda stuff it’s decently solid material.

Finally downloaded this from Amazon and haven’t looked back for the last three days!

Having heard a handful of Chris’ other solo albums and various other collaborations and projects he’s worked on, my impression is still of an artist unwilling to settle for one formula.

Great decision collaborating with some of the in-house Relapse people and bringing Will Lindsay on bass. There’s a propulsive energy to all these songs, even the slower ones, that makes the short running time feel even briefer. I like Connelly’s succinct form of songwriting on this album, kind of a flipside to the long releases of his past.

Anyone notice how prominent his Scottish accent is when he’s going for more of a spoken word approach, such as on “Wait for Amateur”?

Yeah. I’m not a fan of the music part on “Wait For Amateur” but I have always liked Chris’ voice. I think what you’re describing comes across well on this one too . . .

Wow, i just cannot get enough of this album. I got into Chris via Ministry back in the early 90’s, and was glad I did. Chris’ work expanded my horizons and I kept enjoying his explorations.
Then he lost me somewhere after The Bells years. I always enjoyed the experimentation, but it went a little too far for my tastes. Recording 11 minute songs live in the woods just isn’t my cup of tea. I appreciated it, but did not necessarily enjoy it.
With Artificial Madness, Chris got me back. This is the best album I have heard in years. Chris even uses synths on a few songs. This is what got me into Chris in the first place. Sometimes high energy 3 chord rock is the best when done right. All i can say is keep it up. This IS the type of music Chris is best at.
Album of the year by a long shot. And this is coming from someone who buys around 300 albums a year.

After being intrigued by the High Confessions record (but not buying it—that may be next) last year, and seeing all these good reviews, I decided to purchase this on iTunes so I’ll be listening to it as a whole soon. I liked the samples I heard so far…

Yeah it’s dope, “Wait for Amateur” being my least favorite so far…

It’s really great. For Al to call this guy “talentless” after his recent shite albums is pathetic.

Always loved Connelly’s stuff(Blonde Exodus changed everything)and this one is no exception…always cool to talk to over the years also(he has great taste in movies)…this new one has been growing on me,for sure…

I wanna thank Chris for making this available on iTunes, if in fact he had anything to do with that. The only good record store around here (Ear X-Tacy, a staple of my teenage years) finally closed it’s doors a few months back. I don’t particularly care for iTunes, but I really didn’t want to just torrent this one - I will always support the artists I care for, if I can.

I’ll be grabbing it later tonight, actually excited about something for once.

dude, it’s on bandcamp.com as well. send him money through that site, he’ll get more of it than with itunes.

Crap, too late. Well, I got the CD, the bonus tracks, and I went on and got his cover of “Don’t Make Me Go” from the Johnny Cash tribute (it was okay).

Never heard of bandcamp, I’ll check it out.

(he has great taste in movies)

Does he like “Lake Placid” too?

Obviously!
