Still working in the same school system, but I only teach at the high school now. Sort of a long story, but I’m doing some administrative work now too. I run the drama department (theater and video).

Congratulations it sounds like you’re doing well. I’m still at that charter and it has really started to show it’s true colors over the past couple years… It’s a huge pyramid scheme. They are in no way interested in students learning. They are only there for the ADA $. I’m actively seeking to get out and back to public school.
We managed to get a union and Admin made it known that if the union isn’t decertified they would fire EVERYBODY and restart the school with new people so the people looking for protection against the admin still wouldn’t have it. So the school is taking a decert vote in March. It’s a long and involved story I just gave the jist of it.
The school hires people to “teach” that don’t have credentials or even four year degrees (mostly family members and personal friends of administration) nepotism and favoritism are rampant and obvious. These non qualified people are then shot immediately to the top of the salary schedule, which is supposed to apply to all equally as we were promised by admin but we found it’s not, based on what little info the union was able to find out before the union board were recalled. 
It’s so corrupt, they fib numbers to the state, they cheat on tests, it’s more than speculated that they are hiding/laundering money for the district that holds its charter. Me thinks it will be quite ugly and higher ups will scoot off to jail when they are exposed. I’d prefer not to be anywhere near that when it blows up

That’s pretty messed up, Grumpy. Sorry to hear about it. Charters seem to be hit or miss. I’ve seen and heard about some really lousy ones that don’t seem to be about anything, but I’ve definitely visited some impressive ones as well. I’m at a charter too, and I’m pleased to see that we’re starting to get some wider attention. We’re one of 20 schools from around the world featured in a book that just came out this month about teaching creativity and innovation.

the School I work at gets awards and accolades too but it’s not real. They get them because the assistant super is excellent at filling out the required paper work to earn such awards. They keep getting the bronze award or some shit, but really what it comes down to is they lie about our numbers and our racial diversity. If they counted their scores the way everyone else does they’d be middle low end. Which I suppose is not bad considering all of the unqualified people that work there.
I imagine your school is legit though, if your in a book. I would assume the author did his research. If anyone [strike]scratched[/strike] skimmed the surface of this school they would be exposed hardcore.
That’s really good though on your end. Do you have a union? or are you at will employees?
