I always roll my eyes whenever a cover/tribute song is done by an artist and some kooks immediately jump on it with “it’s not as good as the original!” “Sabbath’s is better!” “Dude, Zeppelin’s is better!” “The original by The Who is better!”

Yeah, even if a cover is “better” than the original, it’s hard to even say that with any integrity. It’s like if someone drew some cool Bermuda shorts and sunglasses on the Statue of Liberty. Mine’s better! Uhhh, it wasn’t YOURS to begin with.

The point of a cover song is not to be “better”. The point is to take it, draw from it, and present it in a newly inspired way that puts your own stamp on it. Danzig’s version of “You Were Always On My Mind” is incredible. It’s dark, moving, emotional, and, most importantly, VERY DIFFERENT.

This “Changes” song is the same. It’s done in a new style and presented in a powerful and fresh way that is injected with the new artist’s personality, emotion, and vision. Is it better? I wouldn’t say so. I personally like listening to this version more, though. And I certainly think it’s cool.

Not sure who Charles Bradley is but Changes is about my least favorite Ozzy era Sabbath tune. Vol 4. is an otherwise absolutely outstanding album.

I love Vol 4…the engineering is shit on it but that wasn’t uncommon for Sab…Vol.4 has some sick tunes on it…Tomorrow’s Dream,Cornucopia and St Vitus Dance always slayed me…

I agree about the original song.
I don’t really talk bad about it, but it is a hokey slab of cheese. I think it’s one of those things that we love just BECAUSE it is so odd and out of place (as is much of what Sabbath did). But on its own merit . . . yeah, it’s kind of a piece of junk.

I’ll be honest here, i love the original. I always thought the best version of it was on Ozzy’s Live and Loud album, but this is fantastic, thanks for posting it. Great version!

My pick for most hated Ozzy era Sab song is She’s Gone from Technical Ecstasy…I really like that album(I know I’m in the minority)but that song makes me cringe my balls off…what a maudlin piece of stinking excrement…
