cEvin Key is royally pissed!!!!

I guess Facebook has made it to where you have to use your real name instead of a stage name. I saw something on the Skinny Puppy group about cEvin being stressed about something. I went to his profile and saw that he’s been bitching about it all day. He even went as far as starting a petition on change.org if you can believe that! This is both hilarious and scary at the same time.

HAHA! What a doodoo.

How does facebook know cEvin Key isn’t his real name?

Right? This isn’t the first time Facebook has freaked me out. My landlord popped up under “People You May Know” once. Keep in mind that he and I don’t have any “Mutual Friends” on there.

Sheesh, cEvin Key a.k.a. Kevin Crompton really needs to calm down. I’m going to call him now and recommend that he start smoking weed to deal with these recurring stress issues.

Oh, wait…

I like Facebook for what it is.
Since everyone uses it and I’m terribly disorganized in keeping track of anyone’s emails or phone numbers it is a great way to stay connected to people that I actually WANT to stay connected to and it makes organizing pre-show meet ups and such quite convenient.

That being said, I never put any “real” information about myself on the account/ page because information is just way too readily available and accessible. It’s a stalker/ conman/ criminal’s dream come true.

I’ve heard that some people are being forced to verify their accounts by sending FB copies of their government issued ID’s (driver’s license, etc.) and that they are forcing people to use their real full names.

THAT is the kind of stuff that REALLY freaks me out. As private and careful as I am I still have the occasional weirdo that comes at me from some sideways angle and creeps the crap out of me.

If FB requires us to use legal names, provide our personal details, ID’s, etc. . . . . as annoying and sad as it is . . . I’m out.

While I goof on the Skinny Puppy guys (it’s not like people don’t already know the real names of any “celebrity”) for being emo about this stuff, in all honesty I DO understand and share their frustration. I just wouldn’t cry about it on the internet. Or maybe I would . . . as I’ve kind of just hypocritically demonstrated, haha!

Anyway, Facebook sucks.
Up until now I’ve been able to keep everything more or less “on my own terms” as I just don’t fall for their moronic tactics . . . . “Help us make your account more secure by providing us your phone number and email details.”

Seriously? Do people fall for this crap?

If FB keeps pushing people like this I really hope the public finally says NO. I would even pay a subscription fee to be able to use an account free of contact information, but I’m not going to surrender to them and give them my brain, testicles, and soul because “there’s no other choice”. There is always another choice. It might not be comfortable, but the other choice is “GO TO HELL, FACEBOOK! JUST GO STRAIGHT TO HELL!!!”

It’s important to remember that we are not Facebook’s customers - we are its product.

My real name isnt linked to my profile, nor are any work, school history, or home/current city.

I agree that it is a convenient way to keep in touch, as opposed to calling someone 8x a day [best friends], BUT I’ve had people who I went out with once, who I never emailed, and deleted off of my phone’s contact list YEARS ago, appear as a suggested friend, even though we have NO MUTUAL friends, and they now live in OMAHA.
WTF. Maybe they had me in their phone still?

I would HATE for people I wouldn’t want to be able to locate me more easily, if I were obligated to use my actual name.

I know that around here, there was a lot of drama/concern surrounding the issue in regards to Drag Queens using their Stage name who is the character their page is for, as opposed to their real name.

That’s the best fortune cookie ready summary of the issue I’ve ever read. I don’t know if that’s original but you should copyright that . . . . or at least make a clever meme . . . you know, with T-Rexes or Willy Wonka or something.

Or put it on a blue t-shirt with the font Fuckerburg uses for the Facebook logo.

Reading up on this a bit more, it seems to have only affected performing artists: Drag queens, Skinny Puppy, etc.
The Queens are being given a two week grace period to change their display name, or convert to a fan page. The fan page needing funding for Facebook to make your posts relevant in people’s content feed.
People=products

I do know someone who was forced to change their last name on FB a while back.

Integrity issue, my arse. An even greater invasion of privacy and profit building is more like it.

I use FB to keep in touch with people around the world, most of which I know in person.

My user ID has been associated with me for over 20 years. If I used my legal name, nobody would be able to find my account because my name is common (there are at least 5 people in FL with the same name). Additionally, I also do not want most of the people I work with digging in my private life, and I want to maintain that separation. If they want to know something, they need to ask.

It’s pretty Orwellian what’s going on FB these days. Ironic that myself, Gunnar, voidhead and some other peeps have not been affected, and some have. How do they KNOW I’m not a performer?

Now he’s making his own memes and posting them on FB. I’m really starting to lose respect for the guy.

I think his point is that his facebook page is for his skinny puppy person. it’s how he communicates with his fans. He buddied up with some other chick who is a guitarist and has some stage name like betty rocker or some shit. and her argument is no one knows her by Bethany Smith. The meme - as it were he posted is just him calling bullshit - yet still announcing his own name.

edit: whoa, you’re right - he’s made a bunch of these things. only one i had seen was the i am ledgend/kevin key one.

I admit that the 300 meme was kinda funny, but more for the sake of it being a 300 meme. My old black metal alias that I still sometimes use is Cabal, but I thought it was kind of a joke when a friend/acquaintance would address me as such. I’m talking about just hanging out at some random place. This also makes me think of the time I met Raymond Watts after the time I saw KMFDM in '03. I thought he actually went by the name “Pig”, but I felt silly when he didn’t respond to me calling him by that name. Luckily I saw the name “Raymond” on his monitor and managed to get an autograph.

I mean, do any of you who have prongs meetups call each other by your screen names?

I mean, do any of you who have prongs meetups call each other by your screen names?

Yes, we do, actually.
In fact, last night when I went to get some beer at the Samhain show I heard “GUNNAR!!!” and found Grmpysmrf. I probably call him “Grumps” almost as much as I use his real name. But I tend to make nicknames for anyone regardless.

I’ve met Mooney a number of times off board, and I always just called her Mooney or Moon. And the same goes for a lot of other people I know online.

It’s not just Prongs, by the way, that has this screen name carryover phenomenon. It’s any board or online social media platform. If you have an online “relationship” or social connection with someone and you know them as “Peligro” or “DJ” or “Eureka” or whatever it gets kind of weird to all of a sudden have to call them something different.

As people know me from a few boards and platforms and I’ve gone by several nicknames over the years it’s actually pretty funny when I go to shows and such. I’ll walk around and hear random shouts of “Gunnar!!!” “JayDubs!!!” “Chester!!!”

Can someone post a link to the FB page where this guy is emo-ing out?

And you do have a point about the screen names. I would be happy if someone yelled “Eureka” at me and it turned out to be someone on here. I guess with the black metal thing it was like I absolutely had to put on the show if someone was referring to me by that name.

I think prototype SKB is the only dude that wanted us to use his real name. So, I made the switch, I actually had to look his board name up just now cause I only think his real name whenever I see his board posts
