Just a question…
Is that Al on the keyboards?
Just a question…
Is that Al on the keyboards?
yes
he later sings 38, you often forget and probably some other tracks
I have always thought it is so cool that paul simply plays that “slide” on his base for the whole fucking song. damn i miss those days.
yes, slide from B to E. actually in the choruses he plays A, finishes playing A on both octaves and then it’s all over again. so it’s not only slides.
heh. check the live version of “my possession” that bisquito doom put as song of the week one time - the song doesn’t have bass guitar in it, i guess paul was bored on stage so he also played one slide throughout the whole song.
damn i miss those days.
Yup. This new RevCo lineup wont quite get it live.
wow, i’m surprised you’re not writing in caps!
Maxmal, I really want to agree with you here - we seem to be on the the same page 99% of the time…but I really have to side with the dissenters here. Or maybe not. I’m kind of in the middle here - it’s true I’m a big fan of the “middle” lineup (Connelly, Barker, et al.) but at the same time I haven’t SEEN this new group on the road as of yet. They could be the new incarnation of Revco with no problems whatsoever, but who knows? I’m willing to give it a chance.
However - It seems that people are upset about the current lineup because of the current album, and can you blame them? If these are the same people that came up with the material that’s on the new disc (hey, how about that, they ARE!), then on the basis of that alone, I feel that fans have the right to be wary about the upcoming shows.
It’s true, I’m sick of all the negative crap too, but you know what? This isn’t the Happy Fun Time Band page, it’s the Ministry page. We tend to be horribly unhappy people, and most of us thrive on bitching. I myself am really looking forward to the upcoming tour, and will be catching it in Colombus and Cincinatti (I’ll also be trying to record these shows, um, for POSTERITY, yeah, that’s it…if anyone has some tips!), but I’m sorry, I can totally understand the people being upset about it…I’m upset that Connelly didn’t come back. If they’ll be doing the old tunes, I just hope that they can do some justice to the original vocals, is all.
So, anyway, before I went off on a rant there, what I was getting at was this - it’s true a lot of us are diehard pessimists, and it gets old real quick. But what were you expecting? Just because I have a “Wizard of Oz” quote as my signature doesn’t make this the Strawberry Shortcake fanclub.
I’m fed up reading the same old whining crap in here. This is 2006, not 1987 anymore; move on.
Btw how old were you in 1987? I bet most of you never saw RevCo or Ministry at that time, so…
I was 18, slick - yea, that means i’m 36 now. I had YGDSOAB when it was revco’s latest release. Not all of us are as young as you think. plus - no one is whining.
i think what frustrates me most is how hell bent al is on portraying something as being revco when, for the most part, it is not.
i didn’t mind cocked and loaded: to me, 10 million ways to die and fire engine make for great revco tracks…
but songs like devil cock and prune tang… pure ministry… dead end streetts… pure lard. those musical likeness’ are undeniable… those songs simply do not carry the essence of revco.
i do think it is great that Al has gotten LucVanAcker and Phildo to tour with the new line up, but this new line up is seriously lacking without Chris Connely; not so much Paul, in that any monkey could play his bass riffs, yet with Chris, his voice is something so distinctive, as were his lyricisms, that any replacement would be a joke.
here’s hoping they remember revco’s Bass+Synth+Rant roots and don’t replace it with turgid thrash+distorted guitars…
who knows. it could be a really good thing. i’m hoping to god it is. i’m guessing we’d all be approving of Cocked and Loaded if it were called something other than revco, coz it really wasn’t a bad album.
Maxmal,
Ohhh, we’re not really whining. We’re just being nostalgic about music from the past. Well, I was pretty small back in 1987… even smaller in 1984, which is what I consider THE best year in 80s music. But I don’t think it’s strange for us who are adults now to have a preference for something that marked our childhood. As for 2006, well… I can’t say that I like any of the music that’s coming out this year… If others do, that’s cool. I wish I was able to “move on”, as you say…
I am only 21… so yes, I would have been 2 in 1987, not the biggest ministry fan at the time… lol.
Umm… the only reason I could think of people my age whinging is because we have missed the opportunity to see them at that stage. I don’t mind really, that’s why I like video boots.
I would quite like to see the new lineup play, as I have for the last 3 albums, lol, but they never come to australia, come on guys! When were u last here???
well, no. well, i am sort of whining. yes, bsl, bsq and lfg are all different but then again they have some common things in them. cocked and loaded is just not revco, it’s good on it’s own, yes, but it’s just way too different. i also hate the utter shit production trend ministy has taken since 2004. too much high frequency noise.
Maxmal,
Heu, en fait j’ai 30 ans! Sinon, je suis d’accord avec toi que la tristesse est inhérente à la nostalgie… Mais pas systématiquement.
I was 18, slick - yea, that means i’m 36 now.
Word up slackster. 35 here. Cheers to us old farts.
I would think that the fact we are still listening to Als stuff should say something.
i wasn’t even BORN in 1987, so… i can’t consider myself ‘nostalgic’, but even to someone young like me, there’s something incomparably cool about the revco of that era.
as for the recent shithouse production trend ministry’s been taking up in recent years that gila mentioned… rio grande blood seems to have put an end to that horrid high frequency abuse.
i gotta wonder about chris connelly. how is it he can still look past all the money atkins owes him and play in a band and tour with him (pigface, damage manual), yet is unable to bury the hatchet with al… al must’ve done something pretty heavy, but i strongly doubt that. chris should just fucking grow up and give himself and the fans the good time we’ve been waiting for over 10 years

Regarding Chris Connelly: maybe it isn’t so much about ‘burying the hatchet’ with Al as it is just not wanting to go through the RevCo circus act again. To me, it’d be like reuniting with the guys you used to play mailbox baseball with 15 years ago so you can go out again and smash some more mailboxes. Maybe there comes a point where you just don’t want to go back to that anymore.
That said, I am pleased that Luc Van Acker is a part of the lineup. This means they’ll be doing some of the RevCo material from their earlier period, which I like far better than what they did in later days. I only like about half of BS&Q, and pretty much lost interest after that apart from a song or two.
Anyway, I never saw them live before, so I’ll be there for the show.

yeah, revco WOULD be good to see… MrsJay… paying attention? AUST-RAL-IA, underneath asia, bad accents and lots of beer… COME ON ALREADY!
