Carol Blank - 25 Years

It was brought to my attention this morning that it was 25 years ago today that Carol Blank took her own life. For those who don’t know, Carol was an integral piece of the early Wax Trax scene. She was very close to Jim and Danny. For those with a copy of the 5-18-82 Ministry show, when Al dedicates Efigy to “Jim and Danny at Wax Trax… And Carol”. That’s her. And on December 11, 1982, she took her own life, reportedly copying Ian Curtis’ methods. Al and the gang dedicated With Sympathy to her when it came out the next year (check the liner notes).

For more reading:
http://www.geocities.com/antlion7/waxtrax.htm in the right-hand column, there’s quite a bit about her including a flyer from a radio show dedicated to her after her passing.
http://kmier.net/mixed/punks4.html a sad little bit about her at the bottom of the page.

Any who knew her, please feel free to post.

I never knew her, but I have read that page before, thanks for the link (now I can bookmark it).

The song that XRT played for her, “Oh Yeah” - I always thought of that as the prequel to “Slave To Love”…very similar style.

Sad that she took her own life. I just saw Control on Saturday night, and Corbijn did a really good and tasteful job of depicting Ian’s depression and suicide.

After reading that article, it got me thinking. Has Prongs ever attempted to interview Dannie Flesher? I’ve always wondered who came up with their logo, and would love to hear about their initial encounters with Mr. Jourgenson.

i knew carol well along with her twin sister christine.did not know it was 25 to the date.
thanks.

I’d love to. If anyone can hook me up with contact info…

Do we even know what city he lives in? If he is still in the Midwest, I am sure we can track him down.

I’ve made attempts…anyone in the know from the past (special ed? any info is appreciated : donevertest@gmail.com) that might be able to locate some individuals for prongs, it’d be appreciated

Not that it’s related, but one of the security guards at my mom’s work blew his brains out in the guard shack today. They were friendly; hit her kinda hard.

Yeah, that was it. Thanks for the link, I hadn’t heard any details about it yet, and didn’t want to press her as she was so upset.

I knew Carol, but not well. I first met her at O’Banions around '79 I’m guessing, but I doubt we exchanged 10 sentences, even after seeing her on a regular basis in Wax Trax.

One thing that sticks out is that she had a penchant for plaid. She kinda had that ‘rude girl’ look. I remember a lot of people calling her by the nickname ‘Punky’ early on, but that seemed to fade. She would often be seen dancing in the clubs, sometimes alone.

I was a bit surprised when she took her life. She was often aloof, but it’s not like I never saw her smile or laugh.

A lot of people, I remember, were saddened by her death.

sometimes people take their lives b/c it’s an idea sitting for decades.
that was carol.
did not go to the official when she died. too good a friend.
not in the blood to do it.lots of people went.
not me.
miss her , sometimes.
