i just got noticed by many dem organizations that the right are trying to kill obama’s initial efforts to save our sorry asses.
please call this number and know the name of one of your state senators, at least.
i got a bunch of other numbers that did nothing, but this one took me to the congressional somebody’s secretary or something.
we don’t need more dumbasses to tell us our economy is great, screw the arts, pass the support to your local builder (and such). yup. i’m steamed.

Not to be taken too literally I presume.

About the construction industry: never rely too much on it to boost the economy. Its inherently short term and unstable. Im seeing the consequence of such all around me at present. Loads of young lads skip college, work on sites instead because of the money but then the work dries up and the young lads are fucked, no qualifications. And the amount of corruption and environmental disregard involved in the construction industry is unsettling.

Unless they change what the construction industry focuses on, to renovation and utilisation of existing buildings, then one should take cautious steps with the construction industry. But maybe it works differently in the States.

On the topic of Obama’s plan, I don’t know too much about it but I know its getting bad reactions from outside the U.S. (esp. the EU) as the focus is on buying American and all that. All I’ll say is don’t fucking listen to that because you can’t help others unless you’ve helped yourself first. Ireland is one country set to be impacted by the return of American companies to operate on their home soil because U.S. influence in the form of Foreign Direct Investment was instrumental in igniting its economy 10 years ago. Many of these companies are pulling out now increasing unemployment and all that but, hey, these towns should not have created so much dependence on them in the first place. Adaptability is the key.

Just today the Irish gov announced its culling its 3rd world aid by nearly 100 million euro. All the charities are whining. I say shut up, you do-gooders. How can you expect a country to help out other places when its own economy is sick to the bone.

i think what obama wants to do ideally is like the the former WPA, as far as the arts go.
if you don’t have artists, artisans, craftsmen creating cool stuff to look at, who cares.
i unplug my laptop and go into my collective head–which includes seeing WPA art around this country, in post offices and school auditoriums–my high school had a painting on a drapery in the auditorium of the school, thanks to the WPA.
it’s an old idea. it worked.
our country’s infrastructure needs help. put those guys to work who are skilled in building whatever they build.sounds oldfashioned, but so does writing a resume.who needs only that noise.

another problem with projects involvings lots of manual labor is work related injuries and health insurance. construction workers, tend to get fucked over on things like that… then do fine till like their 30’s and their bodies start to really feel the work

and we’re probably going to be paying for these “stimulus” things and bailouts with our taxes, right? I’m not crazy for that notion either.

Yeah, I’m kind of confused. I remember everyone really being against a stimulus package when Georgy was in office. Now another one is on the way under Obama and it’s suddenly the right thing to do?

but…but…the concept of a stimulus…it’s a change!!
government spending…that’s a change!

but, I’ll give him credit, he’s doing things like shutting down the bay area.

The only thing that is the same between W’s stimulus and Obama’s Stimulus is the name. W’s “stimulus” package was to give everybody in America $600.00. Obama’s stimulus is to pour a shit load of money into infrastructure and the country itself to create jobs. Spot the difference? giving us all and extra allowance under W (so that he can tax us on it later Fucking Bastard!) as you can see did leaps and bounds for creating jobs and stimulating the economy. By Obama pouring a larger amount of money into the country (social programs and what not) he actually will be doing something productive for country besides telling us all to “spend, spend, spend”
I guess you could equate it to that old proverb about men and fishing:
give a man a fish and he eats for a day (W’s stimulus gave us all one Fish/$600) teach him how to fish and he eats forever (Obama is investing in fishing Poles, fishing licenses, bait & tackle etc/ dumping money into the country and it’s infrastructure)

I don’t get a check? Weak. I haven’t been paying much attention recently. I’ve felt kind of burnt out after the long election and inauguration process and sick of hearing about politicians who forget to pay taxes. O’s plan definitely makes more sense than handing out money, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy getting $1200 in the mail between me and my wife.

king smrf !
so what’s this about you and the fish?
seriously though, you’re right about the differences between leader struggling to get a sentence uttered and our current historian trying to do the job we voted for.
daily, the “news” outlets generate all kinds of commentary about obama’s 10th day, etc., like he’s the saviour who hasn’t produced anything good yet. fishes and loaves (getting back to the fish angle) were part of a miracle some people believe. some believe in magic too. that doesn’t create or generate or enervate or propagate(i’m feelin’ a jesse jackson moment here…)
