Cabaret Voltaire - Don't Argue samples (link)

So way back in '09, (after a forum search), I mentioned here that I had grabbed a copy of the WW2 propaganda film “Your Job In Germany”, which is just about the entire sample source of the track “Don’t Argue” (the end sample is Bud Dwyer’s suicide in 1987). I never got around to programming a cover, but have been thinking about it again lately, especially since I know more about what drum machine was used (Kawai R-100, allegedly). Just listen to Don’t Argue and “Over The Shoulder”, and you will hear the same kit.

That said, if any of the Prongs musicians were interested in the sample set, I have it up on Mediafire, if you want to snag it (or if you are just curious). The soundbytes do need to be pitched down a bit, but that is easy enough in any sampler/DAW. I sampled the ‘beatbox’ bit in the beginning, and the Bud Dwyer bit straight from the Code CD, and those two samples are much quieter (just normalize them). I’m thinking of throwing together a cover version this weekend, for the hell of it.

Here are the samples…

Funny thing, in those old CV threads, we talked about wishing for Gasoline In Your Eye and album reissues, and pretty much all of that has happened since then (except for Code being reissued). I bought the Drinking Gasoline reissue (which includes the videos) at Amoeba a couple of years ago, and found a sealed copy of Code on vinyl (with the promo sticker) last year. Kinda bummed that Kirk is doing new stuff under the CV moniker without Mallinder.

Back to Don’t Argue…the original music video contained the hideous remix version (female backing vocals), but a smart fella on YouTube re-edited the video with the album mix (and the Capitol XDR tone at the start, nice):

Me like. In general there are many good tips here, this can get expensive if I choose to purchase!
