Modern France, to me, makes more sense if you look beyond political categories of “Left” and “Right.” They ostensibly have a socialist president now, but that hasn’t prevented them from launching pointless military interventions against countries like Libya and other neo-colonial enterprises in Mali etc.
I think nowadays the new political lines have to be drawn between those who merely want to be left alone, and those who want to impose their way of life on others who never asked for it (this includes both the French and American versions of “making the world safe for democracy” by paradoxically reducing countries to total chaos.)

I haven’t read his historical revisionist webpage in a while, but my understanding is that Varg is a “pan-Aryanist” who believes in a single “white nation” that transcends geographical borders.
I can respect his desire to see Europe move beyond its history of stupid, catastrophic religious wars, wars fought for succession of royalty and so on. However, I’m not convinced that he’s one of those who just “wants to be left alone” as I said above. I think if he were - in some alternate universe where he had any kind of power - able to lead the white race to unity, he would not be content with that and would want them to destroy everything else in its path.
