The authorities have been looking for an excuse to nail his ass to the wall for ages. Not all countries enjoy the freedom of speech given to the American people by constitution. The French and particularly the German governments will jail you for “hate speech” without even blinking. Heck, you can get arrested in Germany for sieg heiling.
Varg’s been vocal in his discrimination of ethnic races in Europe for far too long. He can’t expect to get away with it forever.
And good luck with the French prisons if he finds himself landed in one. I’m sure he’ll find them slightly less accomodating than the Norwegian ones. the French are sickos when it comes to punishing criminals.

Spin is “hip” if you are 18 years old and are a first year Graphic Art student who likes The Arcade Fire, watches The Big Bang Theory and orders take away sushi at least twice a week.
Also, we know Black Metal is hip. There’s no “apparently” involved whatsoever. Stephen O’Malley likes black metal and so does Thurston Moore.
In fact it’s SO hipster that it’s hip to have liked black metal in the mid 90’s when it was unhip. Then to have hated it when it became hip around 2005 only to have more recently started liking it again - especially if you like the U.S black metal bands that the folks over at Aquarius Records rave about.
Anyway, I like Burzum.

Count Grishnackh), who was released from French police custody this past Thursday (July 18) — just two days after he and his wife were arrested on suspicion of planning a “massacre” — has written about the experience on his official blog. "Having found nothing whatsoever in our rental house or on our property suggesting in any way that my wife and I had any criminal plans, the police officers were left with trying to make us talk ourselves into trouble, to put it that way. Only they didn’t actually seem to be too interested in ‘getting’ us. Instead they tried to get clarity. I was shocked! Having experience with the band of thugs known as the Norwegian criminal police, who never seemed to care for anything but getting me and everybody else they arrested, no matter what, I was talking to policemen who were instead doing their job, like common people expect them to do and like they are supposed to do. No false testimonies. No fabricated evidence. No planting of illegal items on our property. No desperate attempts to make everything I said sound as if I was rotten to the core. No obviously deliberate misunderstandings of what I actually said. No attempts to put Marie and me up against each other. Nothing, save some confusion regarding what had been confiscated where and who had been present when this had been done. At the same time the local policemen in Brive behaved exemplary too, all of them and all the time. They were polite and professional. No screaming of vulgarities to the incarcerated. No threatening behaviour. No disparaging laughing or exposure of us to ridicule or other unpleasantries. No misuse of power. Wow! France was really different. At that time I felt a bit ashamed for being Norwegian. Maybe civilisation had not yet reached Norway after all.

However, the DCRI police officers [Direction Centrale du Renseignement Intérieur (Central Directorate of Interior Intelligence), a French intelligence agency which reports directly to the Ministry of the Interior] were working under orders ‘from the top,’ as they put it, so they had to find some way to justify the arrestation of us, obviously ordered from ‘the top,’ so they started to prepare other accusations against us. Like were we suitable parents? I was asked questions about my sons’ camo clothes, archery and my daughter’s use of a sword on one of the photos on my blog.”
Vikernes reportedly still faces charges that he violated French law against provoking racism.
A French prosecutor said Vikernes was charged with racist provocation of Jews and Muslims on the Internet and will be tried in a French court.

I never really “got” Burzum until recently, when a female friend introduced me to his works and his, re, philosophies.
A lot of it was surprisingly good - the music I mean - kind of hypnotic. I can see myself picking up the odd Burzum cd here and there in the future. I dug it much more than I thought I would.
As for his politics, I don’t really know or care.

Vikerenes, 41, who has been living in France for the past four years, and his wife were arrested in July 2013 as a preventive measure after Vikernes posted aggressive racist, xenophobic and anti-Semitic comments on Internet forums. The couple’s home was searched and five guns were found, including four rifles legally purchased by Varg’s wife as a member of a rifle club.
A French court Tuesday gave Vikernes a six-month suspended sentence and ordered him to pay a fine of €8,000 ($10,000).
Ten excerpts from the blogs written between March and June 2013 that attack Muslims and Jews were presented as evidence in court.
Vikernes told the court that he did not pen the racist blogs and said that a possible misunderstanding could have occurred as a result of the fact that he communicated through a Danish interpreter when he was detained last year. He added there were “at any given moment, 350 people pretending to be Varg Vikernes on Facebook. Anybody can very easily put up a blog [claiming to be Varg].”
According to RTL, Vikernes was one 530 supporters to have received the manifesto of Anders Breivik, the man responsible for the July 2011 bomb attack in central Oslo, Norway and shooting rampage in Utøya island that resulted in the deaths of 77 people, many of them children. Breivik e-mailed the 1,518-page manifesto to his contacts hours before he set out on a murderous rampage.
In 2011, Vikernes called for the French to vote for the National Front (FN), writing on his official web site that doing so would be the only way to avoid the scourge of mass immigration.
In the open letter, entitled “Dear France,” he said: “Your parents may induce you into a vote other than for the FN, but do not listen. They are responsible for the plight of today’s France, because they were too ignorant and too loose, or too brainwashed, to do as they should. They have already proved to the world that they have failed and betrayed France.”
Varg was convicted in 1994 and sentenced to Norway’s longest prison term of 21 years for the August 1993 murder of MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) and for burning down three churches, including the original Holmenkollen Chapel next to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo. He was released from prison in 2009 after serving 16 years of that sentence.
