2 dead. 23 injured. 2 bombs detonated. 2 more found at other locations.
News everywhere.
What the fuck is wrong with people?

Yeah, it’s really effed up. A buddy of mine was there. He finished that race quite early (2 hours 51 minutes) and we were all congratulating him and talking about it online and then this happened.
Here’s a really good reddit page being updated frequently with links and information of what’s happened and is happening: http://www.reddit.com/r/news/comments/1cen3t/there_was_just_an_explosion_at_the_boston/
Hopefully all of this gets sorted out and the death toll doesn’t rise. Feel bad for the people injured and the families and friends of the people who’d died.
Apparently a suspect has been identified at a Boston hospital. Whether the individual actually had something to do with it remains to be seen. I recall the Atlanta Olympics bombing where the wrong person was crucified for something he had nothing to do with. The situation is definitely fluid.
You got a link/source for that? Nothing worse during situations like this (aside for the situation and victims obviously) is people speculating or making claims without backing them up. There’s enough misinformation that’s bred from emotion or from people who use atrocities like this to circulate lies.
Been watching. Haven’t heard them say anything of the sort. Maybe I missed it but I haven’t found any sources stating it either.
Thoughts are with Boston and all the people there having to deal with this. Love Boston.
Report that family of Newtown massacre victims were in the VIP area at the finish line. That, whether accurate or not and whether a coincidence or not, is very rough
Death toll will rise - there’s probably people blown to bits and so they can’t confirm a death until they have enough to piece them together.
Richard Jewell up to his old tricks again!
Well, it’s officially being given the title “terror attack” now, I guess.
Hopefully they continue to point out that it could’ve been done by a homegrown group of fuckheads and not jump to conclusions that it’s from a foreign group.
Pretty intense video: http://www.boston.com/video/viral_page/?%2Fservices%2Fplayer%2Fbcpid2080955193001&bckey=AQ~~%2CAAAAAA6piHY~%2CDqRT40XOAr8XmRt9Lw9Lza1eXkXEagX8&bctid=2303076923001
Also, just watched a conference where the Boston Police Commissioner stated that any reports of a suspect being found/in custody are currently untrue.
EDIT: And I realize that a lot of people are understandably upset and angry over what’s happened and are asking, “What’s wrong with people?” or “What’s wrong with the world?” or venting about how terrible people are and how shitty the world is and how much worse it supposedly is now, everything is going to hell, etc.
But instead of focusing on whoever the idiot(s) are that did this it’s important to look at ALL of the people who helped and are continuing to help the victims and are attempting to prevent anything else from happening. Focusing on the negative and blaming people as a whole for the action of however many douchebags is counterproductive and really just shits on all the good people are doing.
Some other official just stated police are guarding a suspect in one of the hospitals so who knows what’s going on.
To tag on someone’s comment from earlier . . . yeah, the half-assed willy-nilly reporting and release of hearsay, rumor, and hallway chatter is certainly not conducive to helping an investigation or establishing any sort of control or normalcy.
I can just picture some idiot cowboy seeing cops outside of a patient’s room in the hospital and coming in to shoot some poor trauma patient or something.
It just makes me think of two months back when Christopher Dorner was putting everyone on edge down here and the Torrance cops got uber trigger happy and shot up two innocent vehicles (one of them took what looked like a hundred rounds).
As for the “terror bombing”. Yes, I do think it is premature to call it that at this point (especially if they are sticking to the story that there is not yet a suspect), but just because it may be homegrown doesn’t preclude the usage of the “terror” term. Symantics, I suppose, but dipwads like Timothy McVeigh and the like are terrorists too, just with different funny accents and less stellar beards and mustaches.
Anyway, I hope they quickly find and identify (properly) the prick and get to work on putting his ass in a cold concrete box.

Agreed and that’s the point I was making. That terrorists are also born, raised, and currently living in the U.S. That it’s not always from a foreign group of extremists. I was stating that I hope they keep pointing that out as a likely possibility and don’t go making assumptions that we’ve been “attacked!” - as if we cannot be attacked from within.
Okay, I got it now. And, yes. We don’t need the media putting up TERRORISM in red block letters with some random background screen of Arabic writing or an outline of a turban-wearing bearded silhouette. More fuel for idiot cowboys to run amok like raging retards.
Is the Boston Marathon a big deal in America. Is it know all over the country or mostly to locals in the Boston area?
It’s an international event. Lots of nationalities running in it.
Reporting from NY Post and Fox is coming under fire already. They talk about someone being detained (one or both of them might have mentioned it was a Saudi) but Boston PD are strongly refuting that anyone’s been detained.
Conspiracy nuts are in overdrive. There’s already a “man on the roof”

It’s not watched by “everyone” like the Super Bowl or any other sports for that matter (seriously, who can watch a marathon?), but it is a BIG DEAL and is one of the top 2 famous marathon races in our country (along with Los Angeles).
While not everyone cares about the event, everyone is certainly familiar with it.
Honestly, I didn’t even know there was a “Boston Marathon” until now.
"Hi, fellow punx! That wuz kewl how u blowed up the marathon. Stick it 2 tha man! So tell me - who did it so I can buy them a beer on St. Patty’s day? C ya at the DIY concert! Love DIY concerts!

Not always. In the 1960s and 1890s there were liberal/socialistic terrorists who were opposed to those running the government at those times.
