–Fripp writes: ”This is a very different reformation to what has gone before: seven players, four English and three American, with three drummers. The Seven-Headed Beast of Crim is in Go! mode.”
So far the only publicly confirmed member is drummer/guitarist, Bill Rieflin (ex-Ministry, REM) who Fripp has previously played with on 1999‘s The Repercussions Of Angelic Behaviour (alongside Trey Gunn).–
Incestuous, there was a short-lived band Fripp had ten years ago with Rieflin and Peter Buck of R.E.M. as well called Slow Music…all they did was play live
I like Belew and think he’s a wonderfully talented guitarist and all-around musician but let’s face it, his membership in Crimson should have long expired. I’m not always sold by the smart alecky rock songs he’s brought to KC’s table. I’m much more about the noodly guitar fireworks that’s always been Fripp’s forte.
Rieflin as an official member makes me happy as horseshit. His true talent as a percussionist/drummer is his knack for finding suitable and always, always memorable patterns for every song. He never overplays. You never hear him throw in distracting fills (or when he does they can devastate; check the slight change-ups during a couple measures in “Breathe”). He’s almost always on the nose with finding an intelligent appropriateness for every song he’s contributed to.
