Big Black

Oh i see, you’re saying the drums are “borrowed” from racer x for stigmata. I don’t think so though i would say this one if ANY borrowing took place

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuBYmqK2w48 (captin)
and the gtr. riff in ‘stigmata’ is an old ac/dc riff and

honestly this is far more punk than anything big black or early ministry did IMO

(one more time good sir!)

Keep your addresses altogether kids!

as much as I love Ministry, Albini’s comments about him being a sellout aren’t far off.

personally, I love that band. Rich Man’s 8 Track Tape was my soundtrack when I was 19.

Rich Man’s Eight Track Tape is the sound of suburbia slitting its wrists and pounding its head against the pavement - set to a jackhammer beat.

couldn’t agree more! [:)]

KEROSENE FTW

Steve has updated his hate from the “I’ll kick Al’s ass” screed:

If one starts out his band existence in a hybrid of Magazine and Van Halen (Special Affect), then gravitates toward the Quaalude culture of the discotheque, then slavishly imitates the foppish brits who made the music played there, then cultivates a hard drug habit as an accoutrement, it is comprehensible how one might think a mechanized heavy metal disco culmination was some sort of achievement.

Granted, one would have to be a fucking idiot to do all the things that got him there, but at least Mr. Jourgenson’s journey is fathomable.

Listening to this bullshit is not.

If you’re not actually in the band, I mean. I can understand how a band member might feel obliged to listen to the music while it was being made.

Sounds like someone is jealous!

I don’t think Albini’s jealous of Al, I think he simply hates the dude. Lots of people hate other people in the industry, most of them just don’t mention it in interviews. Albini’s not a shy man in that regard.

I was mostly joking. but still… Al’s Junkie status has probably more notoriety that Albini’s whole career.

True Dat

It’s hard to say whose more “famous” Albini or Jourgensen.

I guess Ministry/Al got more mainstream publicity than any of Albini’s bands, but honestly on a street level in daily life I meet way more people who know about Albini.

Could be because I’m living in Brooklyn as well. Knowledge of Jourgensen seems pretty restricted to goth types I meet.

Albini definitely has more integrity as a musician, but I think Jourgensen at his best just made better music.

And yeah Albini is definitely overrated as a producer.

‘In Utero’ is amazing though.

At Action Park is almost as good as Filth Pig. It makes me want to hurt vulnerable people who have done me no harm.

I can understand how someone like Albini would hate someone like Jourgenson. 90% of Jourgenson’s career reads like a grab bag of ‘I did what I had to do to become popular’ and ‘it doesn’t matter what the music you make sounds like as long as you look cool making it and don’t have to pay anyone who helps you in the process’.

Also, Albini didn’t come out smelling like shit 25 years into his career.

But at the same time, Jourgenson is (partly) responsible for creating Filth Pig, so…take that skinny Mr Albini.
