Since it seems you all aren’t too pleased with al’s new label (although i think ascention of the watchers is amazing) I was wondering what are some of your fav labels run by ex or current musicians… Mine would go probably to ipecac with mike patton/greg werckman at the helm.

Ipecac for sure. Ninja Tune is another. Terminal Kalediescope, the Legendary Pink Dots label, has been running strong since probably 81 or so.
I would have gone with Sevcom as it brought out in the late '90’s a lot of rereleases of obscure Australian music from the post punk boom not to mention keeping the Sevs sizable catalogue in print, but Tom’s focus is on other things right now (like teaching). Ipecac is good as is Dischord, and Subconscious Communications should get a mention if just for the From the Vault Releases alone.
What Wax Trax! doesn’t count? I thought Al birthed that one himself [;)]
Rise Above Records is pretty good for the doom fans…
i used to be a big fan of ant-zen out of germany run by s.alt. great stuff back in the early years but now it all sounds the same to me. young god records run by gira puts out some interesting stuff now and again.

I’m listening to a home-made Neurot Recordings sampler I assembled from all the free tracks on their website right now.
Madonna’s Maverick is still going strong.
Nothing had the potential to be the best artist run label ever (NIN, Manson, PWEI, The The, Autechre, Einsturzende Neubauten, 12 Rounds, Coil, Pig, Prick, MBM, Squarepusher, 2wo, Trust Obey, Plaid - the mind boggles), but I don’t think Trent realized he would actually have to do some work on it.
It’s a shame Rob Zombie’s label didn’t go further. I liked the couple of releases on it.
I like alot of the stuff that comes out of Biafra’s Label, Alternative Tentacles. Although some of their stuff is ridiculous nonsense! Most of their spoken word releases are great. Although Biafra’s last 2 spoken words have been pretty-half assed. although I have to give him credit for being in front of the blogs. His previous spoken word was called become the media and he was basically calling for people to pick up their camcorders and become the media since it’s painfully obvious that the news outlets seriously give us misinformation most of the time. and sure enough within 2 years of his call for a “camcorder truth Jihad” people were out there blogging calling crap on most of the news outlets and having legitimate proof of their claims. between the ease of the internet and the fact that camcorders are everywhere now (in cell phones mainly) It pretty much forces news outlets to be honest and fair(well more fair than I’ve ever seen Except for good old fox news they’re staying the course as far as reporting straight out lies). Seems like the turning point was in 2000 when the protests were going on in seattle the police were beating the crap out of protesters and every major news outlet was reporting about how everything was dandy and everyone was getting along-and within hours they had to reetract the stories because people had started to post the beatings on the internet and and basically looked like fools for their mis reporting.
I like the Mumia Abu Jamal spoken words and the Chomsky spoken words(although Noam is a dull as crap speaker but if you can get through it he has some brilliant observations about the class war going on right now.)

I think that has mainly to do with the other 3 sell out kennedys that sued biafra for bullshit. (not promoting dk enough) those guys are hacks!! so much so that brandon cruz walked away from them as well as 2 other Biafra scabs.

For sure about his current spoken word, probably the weakest of all of his spoken word (the best being a tie between 3&4 with #2 coming in a close second!) All he did was just re-report what was already on mainstream news about katrina. I liked him cause he usually has stuff that doesn’t make the news. plus FUCK DIGIPAKS!!! and not only did he digipak this last spoken word but it’s a thick DIGIPAK because of the multiple discs!
