Barker Project with Grossman

Interesting interview with Adam Grossman where he mentions his new project with Paul Barker.

Interesting interview - took me damn near ten minutes to read! I can’t wait to see how this project turns out.
It’s nice that, while he’s obviously Paul’s friend, he didn’t slag Al in any way. And what the fuck are those pictures about?

This is really fuckin interesting. I would absolutely LOVE to see this shit materialize. Awesome.

Seems to me the slamming is one-sided anyway. I haven’t seen much evidence of Paul slamming Uncle Al since the split, but plenty the other way around. In fact, when I ran into Paul at the last Death In June concert in Austin I spoke to him about his earlier Ministry work, particularly on the side projects. He didn’t have even a bitter tone in his voice regarding any of it, nor did he say anything negative about Al the whole time. I’m not surprised, though… Paul always did come off as a pretty nice guy.

Paul always did come off as a pretty nice guy.

from my dealings with paul, I can say that he seems to be a genuinely nice and appreciative guy.

oh, and you’re a bastard for seeing death in june before he stopped touring. closest he came to me was chicago and that show got cancelled due to a bunch of asshole christians.

What is this “he?” Death In June should be the original three members, unless I’m mistaken. I’ve met David (ne’ TIBET) four times now, and he was relatively excited about this Death In June tour…he (David) is basically Current 93, if any of you were curious. I’m really looking forward to it, if they do in fact make it to this part of the states again.
Whatever.
As a side note, the ONLY Ministry song that David likes, or can stand, is Stigmata. That’s it. The one and only song by my heroes that one of my other heroes likes is Stigmata. After something like 23 albums, I guess I can deal with that…

I was under the impression that DIJ was more or less Pearce with different musicians since the mid 80s when Wakeford and the other guy left the band. While i do prefer the early early DIJ stuff i would have loved to see them perform anyhow. last i read, that last DIJ tour was the last one ever. oh well, at least i have the live dvd.

Current 93 needs to tour closer to me as well. I should have just went to Toronto when they played there (same should be said for when coil played montreal or nyc). i also read that Nurse with Wound is doing a couple shows this year… but i’m not a huge fan. sorry for taking this thread way off topic.

You’re right, actually - it looks like only Pearce is on this tour. Which kind of baffles me, as David was all excited about it…perhaps something happened that I’m not aware of. That wouldn’t surprise me, as David “Tibet” is really just a drama queen to the extreme…first he’s a Nazi, then he’s a Satanist, now he’s all Christian. Who the hell knows?
Anyway, yeah, I’m excited about the possibilty of a Grossman/Barker project. There’s your topic, run with it…

I’m a bit confused here… why would David be excited about a Death In June tour, when he and Douglas P. fell out years ago?

Perhaps all three at once, or none of the above even…

Pure luck on that one. In fact, I skipped the previous DIJ show in Austin the year before due to waning interest in their recent work… but I just decided to go to the next one, not knowing it would be one of the final times. That, and the completely unexpected encounter with Paul Barker made it a great night all around.

Christonabun is confused. Tibet was excited about the Current 93 mini-tour that’s already happened. He was never going to tour with DIJ. They haven’t worked together since the early '90s.
As for Tibet’s religious allegiances, I’d say he’s leaned in a Christian direction since at least “Thunder Perfect Mind.” His convictions have simply gotten stronger since then.
And what kind of drama queen uses this as their myspace pic? http://myspace-773.vo.llnwd.net/00965/37/75/965435773_l.jpg

Yeah, you’re probably right. Let’s just say it was a confusing night…I remember we had been talking about DIJ at the time, but not much more than that.
I really only know the guy in passing, but he’s a nice enough dude. It’s because of him that I got into Cocteau Twins, so I’ll have to thank him for that.
Is there any other news on the Barker/Grossman thing? It’s to be an actual band, right? I’m intrigued.

oh i should mention that Tibet is on the cover of this month’s “Wire” magazine with a lengthy article. the only shitty part is that that mag is $10 at Borders and B&N.

Awesome. I’m buying it anyway.

It would be funny if the new singer for barkers and grossmans new band was Chris Conelly just because it would be the ultimate pie in Als face. But then again i would probably prefer a different singer unless connelly sang like he did in revco, which i doubt he would.

Grossman’s by far greatest collaboration was with Danny Lohner on the first Skrew album. Now that would be a trio, but I think Lohner is basically owned by Trent Reznor nowadays.

lohner left nin a long time ago now.

Why? I’m pretty sure he’d be focused on his own band and not the efforts of a bunch of one time collaborators.

Ironically, it was Paul Barker who introduced Danny Lohner to Trent Reznor. Crazy how things come around…

I dunno I just thought they may pull a few of the better aspects of the older ministry albums and mix it with something new. It would fill the demand for Ministry Fans who do not wanna hear a political thrash fest. Btw theres nothing funnier than when he yells “EXPLOITATION TO FEED THE CORPORATIONS!” on senior peligro.
