Bands you haven't seen but you wish you did

Peligro, are you under the influence of something?

I think I’ll also add Godflesh to the list even though they’ve only become an interest over the last couple of years. Who knows maybe I’ll get the chance if they decide to tour the US after Hellfest

Slint

I stumbled upon a (possibly) unnamed demo/single/promo/??? of theirs at Hastings for like two bucks. Snagged it simply because of the magic words “Touch & Go” on the back. Still haven’t listened yet. What should I be expecting?

I started thinking about this thread today.

I have since added versions of LoA, Front 242, The Cult, FNM, and Nick Cave to my seen-live list. Have also since seen RW sing Hot Hole in addition to KMFDM songs and went to see Swans (not on original list). Was lucky and saw TON too before PS’s passing.

Ministry (1988-2003)
The Cramps (had the opportunity many years ago, but didn’t make it)
Lords of Acid (many opportunities missed)
Morphine
White Zombie (I’ve seen Rob)
Soundgarden (I’ve seen Chris play solo)
Front 242 (missed this show due to a car accident)
Nitzer Ebb
Sisters of Mercy
The Clash
Metallica (pre-1990)
Joy Division
Killing Joke
The Cult (bad timing every time)
Faith No More
Real RevCo (2006 was as close as I got)
Real GnR
KMFDM w/ R.W. (I don’t think this will ever happen again)
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Black Sabbath
The Misfits (the real ones)
Beastie Boys
L7 (had the opportunity and didn’t go)
Butthole Surfers
The Who
Nick Cave
The Pixies
Radiohead
The Velvet Underground
Motorhead (bad timing every time)
Iggy Pop

Have seen: FLA, SP (2x), NIN (7x), Bauhaus, Jane’s Addiction, M. Manson, GWAR (4x), Laibach, STP, RHCP, and Slayer

Judas Priest
Iggy Pop
Jello Biafra
Johnny Cash

Iggy Pop
Jello Biafra

wait… you havent seen either of these guys live?! dude, you gotta get on that! they are both still (lightly and sporadically) touring.

i saw Iggy a bit of a while ago, and it was worth the higher than i like price. as for Jello, i only saw him on a date with the Melvins, but still… he sand California Uber Alles, so all was well. haha.

but as for bands i never got to see that i want to…

Fugazi, Texas Is The Reason, Metallica with Cliff, Sound of White Noise-Era Anthrax, Tin Machine, Minor Threat, Black Flag (My War Era), Songs of Seperation-Era 108, classic-era Misfits, and the Ramones.

(sighs)

OK, I’m drunk, I’m bored, alone and it’s late.

So here goes -

Swans (1986)
Butthole Surfers (1987)
The Birthday Party (1982)
Napalm Death (1989)
SPK (1981)
The Cure (1981)
Black Flag (1984)
Tool (1993)
Rollins Band (1993)
Mr Bungle (1992)
Chrome (1982)
Bad Brains (1982)

Also, any of the second wave of Black Metal bands back in the early 90’s.

Yeah they were good but I still dont really like the fact that I didnt see static-x

I saw Static X supporting Down, i wish i could unsee them and give you that experience.

PIG

I saw PIG open for NIN in Dublin in 1994, they were coined off after maybe 3 songs, hahaha. I wish, in retrospect, that they’d played on in spite of the abuse they were being given.

Judas Priest
Iggy Pop
Jello Biafra
Johnny Cash

I saw Priest with Megadeth and Testament a couple of years ago, good show. Saw Jello at a spoken word thing a few years back, it was great, he laid into Arnold Schwarzenegger a lot, he was the governor at that time. I met him afterwards, he gave a non-commital answer when i asked him about new Lard, and tried to tell me about (possibly) what he’d just recorded with The Melvins, to which i went “Hmmph”. He seemed a nice guy.

Seeing the riot at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées during the premiere of “The Rite of Spring” would have been really nifty. … Are they any really old people/vampires on here with a first-hand account?

Wesley Willis used to play shows in Milwaukee all the time, and I always figured “I’ll catch him next time.” Along similar lines, Mitch Hedburg had a show in Milwaukee right when my friends and I were getting really into him. I don’t know why we didn’t go, but he was dead a few months later.
I keep telling myself that I still have a shot at seeing Bowie, and I’ll do just about whatever I can to make that happen if he performs live again.

Two more…

Leonard Cohen, who just turned 78. So I guess I should get busy looking for a ticket.

The Smiths…I’ve seen Morrissey once, and had tickets to see him 4 times when he’s cancelled or postponed. Still, that one show was great.

Jello is heavily touring his Guantanamo band. That dude is all over the place. He’s in and out of the country all the time it seems. Mostly his Cali gigs are all up north though. but with how much Gunnar travels he probably could easily see them in brazil or europe as he could northern cali.
and Jello is still an excellent frontman considering he’s getting up there in age and his bum leg still plagues him. I saw them at the El Rey a couple of years back and it was great. He played a mix of DK tunes and new tunes. The new records are great, I think.

Saw Jello at a spoken word thing a few years back,

He’s still doing spoken word? I thought he was done doing that. I haven’t seen any dates or anything listed on the AT newsletter in more than several years. the last CD he released was In the grip of Official treason, and that thing was easily the worst one of his catalog. His info was so dated. I kinda figured since I haven’t heard about anymore dates that he was done with it and he just kinda half assed his last effort.

I saw him at the spitfire tour back in 2000 with Dr. Drew (Before Dr. Drew blew up to be a huge star)

actually, now that you say this…

i would have LOVED to have seen Embrace and Rites of Spring live.

This was a while ago, i reckon it’s probably quite a few years now, longer than i’d thought. Could have been before Cocked and Loaded came out even. He wore some kind of cop/sheriff shirt and talked a lot about Arnold Schwarzenegger, it was fun apart from a couple of assholes in the crowd. It was in a little building that’s part of Queen’s University Belfast where i’d done my final exams a few years earlier. I never thought, as i sweated over my Philosophy exams in that building, that i’d be watching Jello rip Arnie a new one a few years later in the same place.

Yeah, I can tell you from experience that you go into a Wesley Willis show expecting an ironic good time and you leave feeling a little sad.

i can only imagine.

i never understood the fascination with him that some people have. it seems cruel and heartless in a way. sorta like how that William Hung guy was so ‘adored and loved’ but only because people wanted to make fun of him so they could feel better about themselves. at least the William Hung fellow made some money, Wesley Willis and Daniel Johnston (but DJ to a slightly lesser extent, i guess) were just paraded around and lit up like wickermen for the entertainment of ‘alt’ kids.

dammit, now im going to be thinking about this and getting sad all day. haha.

Many people, including myself, get surprised when I admit I’ve never seen Jello perform. For a LONG time I would proudly have ranked myself as one of the world’s top leading Jellophiles and DK historians, collectors, etc. I had it all and knew it all. I even had written correspondences with his camp back when people used things called pens, stamps, and envelopes. And I’m even credited for artistic contributions in the LARD liner notes. But I’ve never met him or seen him in person.

It just always seems to slip under my radar or I’m in the wrong place at the wrong time (travelling on the opposite sides of the earth). And since I kind of burned out over my crush and obsession following a string of coma-inducing, dead-horse-beating spoken word albums I don’t have as good of visibility anymore on his schedule/tours.

As for Judas Priest . . . I even had a ticket for that same tour that Jay Carton mentioned (Priest, Megadeth, Testament, Motorhead). It was called (at least in the states) MASTERS OF METAL, or METAL MASTERS or something. I ended up getting stuck in Egypt on business, so I gave the extra ticket to my buddy. I really wish I’d made it back for that one as it was my last chance to see the proper twin-axe-attack of Downing/Tipton.

Oh, well. Life goes on . . .
