Bands that have Never Let You Down

Oh come on! ‘Go Away White’ is fucking fantastic. It’s definitely a grower, but listening to their albums back to back I think it’s by far one of the strongest.

Maybe that’s because I’m not biased since I wasn’t around when they had their initial run.

Could be. I’ll definitely agree that it’s a good album, and it’s got some real choice cuts on it (particularly on the second half; The Dog’s a Vapour is just as good as anything they’ve done, although it is 10 years old already). But it doesn’t stand up to the original 4 albums. Of course, a lot of “old school” fans will apparently tell me the same thing about Burning From the Inside.

I like KMFDM “Deutschland” but don’t like lots of other albums by them and haven’t listened to any album post MDFMK.

I hated Deutschland the first time I heard it. It was the fourth kmfdm album ever that I had heard. I started on Symbols, Attak, and Adios. And when I went on a binge and bought attak and another one (I think it was nihil, can’t remember the other…), but the third in the bunch that I bought was Deutschland. My immediate reaction was “what the fuck is this?”. Put it away for a long time and now I think it’s pretty damn good.

I can’t stand UAIOE too much though. The rasta stuff is just a little meh to me. Musically, it’s good. Not a fan of much of the newer album either (WWIII, Hau Ruck, etc.). Blitz had some nice moments though.

warly kmfdm is def a different monster… lots of toung in cheek stuff. nowhere near the seriousness of captn’k…
first kmfdm cd i got was xtort when it had just come out. I didn’t finally get what do you know untill it came out remastered… I regret taking so long though cause i really like their early stuff. Moreso than attak. but it’s apples and oranges really. was really caught off gaurd by the zappa lyric biting. gail (franks wife) is like a hawk protecting franks work. she went so far as to sue all zappa tribute bands out of business even… and then sascha has lyrics straight from I’m the slime, and dirty love right up front…

it’s not a band, but george carlin never let me down… I say that cause I busted out the first adam sandler cd today “they’re all gonna laugh at you” which is something I listened to constantly in 4th grade with my friends when it just came out and was glad to see it still held up

Holy crap some of you people are young.

What about people who have passed away?

If that’s allowed, mine would be Nick Drake.

Others, for the most part…

Nick Cave
Talk Talk
Chameleons
Smiths
Love and Rockets
Beatles
Bauhaus

Good thread, indeed - need to think of more…

jello anything. saw that guy recently.
he keeps keepin’ on.

Talk Talk

Good call, forgot about them.

I was thinking the same thing…Sandler, 4th grade. I was senior when that came out!

Surprises me that you’d be a fan of his tracks on “Cocked and Loaded”…

I don’t think that counts as “jello.” I think He just sang what al asked him to sing. His concert was not bad at all!

Tool (haven’t made a terrible album - although to be honest I don’t count their pre-Aenima releases which do not interest me in the slightest)

you can’t just exclude two releases lol. Well you can… but wouldnt that count as letting you down. Unless you count the changing of the bass player guard as an entirely new band.

I understand why people dismiss Undertow, but it is a strong album. But Opiate + the best of Undertow would have been a better one. An Opiate re-issue was one of the first vinly albums I got, loved it. Thought it was great how the second side lead-in had two grooves so you either got the first live track or gaping lotus experience.

Anyway… +1 Tool have never “let me down”
MJK has never… love APC and Puscifer too.

See I disagree, I think Undertow is one of their best, if not their best.

MJK hasn’t let me down, or hurt me.

ahem… ‘eMOTIVe’!

Terrible. Definitely MJK’s nadir (so far).

Nurse With Wound

Whitehouse (although Great White Death, Halogen and Twice Is Not Enough are LESS than stellar)

Kraftwerk

Faust

Boredoms

John Zorn (although does occasionally disappear up his own asshole)

Swans (and post breakup projects)

Napalm Death

Mick Harris (ND, Scorn, Lull, Quoit, Painkiller)

Coil (even BAD Coil is decent)

Brian Eno (I have heard enough of his output to convince myself of this…however to be honest I haven’t heard the albums that fans of his often disown/complain about)

Led Zeppelin (never made a bad album in 10 years…although had Bonham not died and the band have ploughed on, I’m pretty sure their 80’s output would have been drastically less successful - even to the point of parody)

Aphex Twin

Tool (haven’t made a terrible album - although to be honest I don’t count their pre-Aenima releases which do not interest me in the slightest)

Agree on all counts.

However…

Led Zep’s first and last albums don’t get much of a spin from me. I don’t dislike them but I guess I could live without them.

Aphex, please release a fucking album already. It’s been 8 years. Or maybe don’t release an album. That’s kinda the appeal with that guy - very mysterious.

With Tool, I also don’t give a shit pre-Aenima.

Boredoms’ last ten years have been dull.

Whitehouse broke up at just the right time. They left with their dignity in tact.

Swans were ace. Always.

See I disagree, I think Undertow is one of their best, if not their best.

Agreed.
I liked them better when they were more metal, less prog.

Yeah - Swans, Killing Joke, Divine Comedy, Leonard Cohen, Scott Walker. Nice to see such an array of different artists on this forum!

There’s a new one on the way:

can’t believe i left the germans out:

kraftwerk

No wonder they keep calling, and I think they’re curious about that merger.

Have any of you heard of this band called Status Quo? They are really pushing the boundaries of all your preconceptions about music and “what makes a song” and stuff, I think this Aphex Twin guy has a great deal to learn from them. They are the true pioneers.

tom oakley, st albans
i sooooo hope the new album has a duet with sugarbabes or lady gaga. or maybe someone a little more underground like britney
