I love Voidhead. Some (much) of his music is not really my cup of tea, but I’d prefer it over much other blecch that people round here (Void included) are into.
And yeah, this “reality” probably won’t last forever. But who cares? The kid is young and having a blast doing his rockstar thingy and he’s got a small gaggle of pretty ladies to fawn all over him. That’s awesome!
But really, when it comes to the “art” of Voidhead, I think it’s much more than just the music. I think inventing or reinventing yourself in a particular aesthetic style and persona and projecting that image successfully to others IS an art unto itself. He’s molding himself into something unique and different and obviously some people have taken a shine to that (and as luck would have it those fans are pretty nice looking).
Keep doing your thing, Void. I don’t always “like” it, but I think I do “understand” it.

Come on, Grumps. Don’t be such a bitter bastard. I’m not patronizing or toying with anyone here. I’m straight up with Void (which I think he respects and appreciates based on my time here and interaction with him). I tell him what I like and don’t like about his art and I don’t go out of my way to pet his ego or tell him everything is rock and roll awesomeness out of any obligation to support the home team.
And I don’t think the guy is going to be the next Elvis or anything and have never overstated anything. But I do like and appreciate getting to see his art and comment on it accordingly.
I’m not going to shred the dude or crap on him just because he’s got a perceived ego that some people feel is unjustified. I think all rockstars should have big egos (regardless of how small their world of “celebrity” is). They should be larger than life and outrageous. Void is. And I think he’s also pretty straight up and honest. I like that.
And this isn’t to say he gets a free pass on anything. I’m not keeping score (don’t know if he is), but I bust his balls on plenty occasion when I feel the situation calls for it.
I think that Voidhead can be such a galvanizing figure is part of his greatness. That’s punk rock badassness at its finest.

Being “serious about one’s art” and “taking one’s self too seriously” are too totally different things. Some people have trouble distinguishing the two.
