I hate auto tune but this was good.

The start was anyway

There’s another (not as good) one that featured Joe Biden which his segment alone is worth watching for.

Rebowuwound!

The Katie Couric bit came out great.

This is the best news footage mixing I’ve seen since the heyday of Emergency Broadcast Network. The Katie Couric bit was great.

Legalizing marijuana never sounded so fine.

Electronic… Behavior… Control… System…[/reply] I’ll have to dig this album out and give it a spin, it came with a floppy disc [:)] I wish Joshua Pearson would release a DVD of all the EBN stuff, sadly my copy of the original video has gone MIA.

I’ve got a floppy drive on the '98 machine I still use sometimes at work.
I think I’ll take it and give it a play.

I’ve watched this a dozen times or so. Brilliant!

possibly the only reason to autotune anything. especially, the glasses.

what kind of music would you classify this as? electronica? R&B?

It’s just a parody of the awful auto-tuned R&B stuff that’s so popular these days.

Autotune is a plug-in for audio programs. It was created to fix singing that’s a little off key or whatever while mixing. If it’s being used as intended, you shouldn’t know it. However, somewhere someone figured out that you could make vocals sound weird and robotic with it and it became the new “it” thing to do in R&B songs. The first time I remember hearing it was that Cher song that was big with the gays several years ago, but I’m told that wasn’t technically done with Autotune.

I was told Cher is technically a female but I am skeptical.

autotune is the lazy man’s way to clean up vocals.
why, if you’re any good, would you care for that cleaned up sound. cher in point.

i still dig cher tho. (oh god…i AM terminally gay…and i just don’t care!)

Well, again, what we’re hearing is not the musicians using it to clean up their vocals. Cher and T-Pain and the guys making this video are using it in an exaggerated manner as an effect. Presumably, if you’re using it to make slight pitch adjustments in an out-of-tune vocal track, the end listener would never notice.

Don’t worry, Ed. I believe in life after love, too.

Are you sure we’re not confusing a vocoder with auto-tune?

We are not.
See the link in my post.
Technically I guess Auto-tuning is done using a vocoder effect, though.

Vocoders don’t correct pitch. They change the envelope of the voice which can make it sometimes sound like auto-tune. “Autobahn” features a vocoder…which sounds a little like the over-the-top auto-tune effect. But it isn’t pitch corrected, just envelope affected.
