Atlanta Show 06.07.06

I’ll keep it simple…
Tickets $25
Cocks - a lot of fun - good show (setlist : same as others)
Ministry - unbelieveable. (don’t remeber the enitre setlist but it was almost identical to the June 9 setlist show that was posted a while back)

The show was at a place called Masquerade. I’ve been there hundreds of times - but last night it was packed more than i had ever seen it. even the areas in front of the bars in the back were packed with people watching the show.

Somehow the ministry set had a real organic feel to it. yes yes i know they use samplers and click tracks but somehow the drummer gave it a real organic feel. now… the drummer did mess up a little here and there… but i liked what he brought to the table. It seemed like the band was really enjoying the crowd and felt that it was a good night for them. the cocks drummer - i never saw him, i couldn’t even see his kit. phildo kept stagediving during the cocks set which helped me get right up in front of Al for a few cocks tunes - which was (IMO) the spot to be in the whole place. I later retreated - but I did want to get up there for at least 3 Revco tunes.

had fun. great show.

I could see the Revco drummer, but then again I’m 6’4". For some reason they always had him kind of buried below or right at stage level (two different venues). He really is fun to watch, though - doing his little baton-twirly routine in between snare hits. Impressive.
I really had fun at the Cocks, too. What’d you make of the penis-suit?

sounds like fun slack…NYC was over packed too. Luc did stage dive after the Revco set.

Hey Slacklove I couldn’t make the show last night, but my roommates went and let me hear Stainless Steel Providers over the phone[:)] I saw Ministry with KMFDM at the Masquerade in 90, and it was probably the best show I’ve seen at that venue other than the Too Dark Park tour.

Ministry was just ok - the super-loud high end really made the music indescernable at times, even with earplugs in. And the set list was way out of balance. Mix it up a little, Al!
The Cocks were great, though. I really hope they keep this line-up together for an album after the tour. The new singer’s schtick is an excellent addition to the RevCo concept, and he’s a nice guy, too.

oh the lights were too bright."

“the guitar was a little low”

“it was hot”

“i couldn’t get a beer”

wah-wah-wah.

you guys need to understand that al is fucking getting older. he’s been doing this for a long time. and you’re talking about all this like its his 2nd or 3rd tour. grow the fuck up. the man is playing in two show every fucking night. have you seen the tour list and how many show that is.

jesus. i though i was coming here to chat with people who respected determination.

fuck.

You deleted the post, Slacklove, but you’re not the first person to call me a pussy for wearing earplugs. I’m an audio engineer, though. So I’m trying not to lose the subtleties of my hearing by the time I get to Al’s age.

You’re not a pussy for wearing earplugs - you’re smart. Al’s age shouldn’t be an excuse for how painfully loud this year’s tour is. Is the guy working the soundboard hard of hearing, or does the band really want it that loud?

1002

on a side note, i want to ask you (since you’re the engineer) - how bad (or good) does the latest album sounds technically? cuz i checked out some houses of the mole tracks in soundforge and omg what a shitload of clipping is there! though they had clipping since filthpig.

yea i deleted it. it didn’t come across they way i wanted it to. i posted while drinking. fair enough to call me out.

sometimes i step back and read things that we post and it bums me out. we get real picky about this stuff - and that’s the mood i had yesterday. basically the point i was going for is - f it - its cool to see them touring again reguardless of all the little shit.

It seemed strangely harsh, so when I saw it was deleted I figured it was something like that. I just wanted to defend my earplug use. [:)]

For Gila, I don’t work with music very often (I do voices for telephony, internet stuff, etc.), except my own, so I’m not up on modern mastering techniques. But I can tell you that most heavy albums look tremendously clipped when you open them in Soundforge or Audition or whatever. They don’t SOUND clipped though, the way you’d expect them to when you look at the waveform. So I’m not actually sure what they’re doing to the audio to get that effect. There are some other audio guys here, so maybe they’d know better.

I went to the Woosta, MA show and wore earplugs, shit sounded fine to me. When I saw the Ramones a few years back they were louder, but I did not have earplugs for that show so I can’t say for certain that Al was quieter. Maybe the club didn’t let them go as high up as they wanted to, I was dissapointed that my ears weren’t ringing after!

Uh-oh…here it comes…
