Registration site.
Fuck the Chicago Tribune. They can burn down and go to hell.
Haha! I love Martin Atkins. His finest moment was when he established a “school” to teach kids about the music industry . . . He charged them $3K-$5K in tuition fees and then made them work for him packaging orders and cleaning his office. Brilliant.
Did anyone ever see his documentary Sixteen Days In China? It looked pretty good but i never found it or remembered to even look for it until now. The trailer made it look pretty interesting.
Actually, i just looked on Youtube, here it is!
I got the article to work by… turning off Javascript. whistles innocently

Good call. I’ll check it out at home where I have No Script installed.

The first comment in the youtube comments section is: “Martin Atkins has a very punchable face” hahahahaa
Hahaha, yeah, he certainly does.
About 8 years back he was tooting his horn about being at some blowhard music convention (NAAM perhaps). He put up some retarded self-filmed clips of himself talking about himself and what he was doing there, etc. Then he tried to namedrop and show how cool and connected he was, and he said something like, “I must get going. The guys from Drowning Pool are coming by to meet up.”. It made for days of hilarious internet-fodder, fueled by a few of us bastards at Piss Army.

I showed someone I know rather well, who did work for him under that situation and he said it was correct 100%.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Thank you for vindicating me. I wish I’d taken screen shots and copied his videos when he was doing this. He’s taken almost all evidence of it down from the web, but it was so horribly transparent and every time I saw him try to pimp that crap (he almost always goes on forums under the guise of a fan or happy client who just happens to have all this great stuff to share and promote for Atkins) I would call him out.
I really felt bad for anyone that got suckered into that dumb “school”. He called it “Revolution 3” or something, as I recall.
What a dick.
Oh, damn, the YouTube channel is still up. It’s fantastic! Hey, let’s meet some of the slaves, umm, errr, I mean STUDENTS . . .

a couple of them looked like the realization was setting in that they were indeed slaves…
can confirm that noscript works and unblocks the article.
it’s interesting he’s going to work for one of my competitors, heh. maybe i should drop him a line and see if he’d come back to england and do one for us… for free, of course.

Slavery that you have to pay for the privilege to enjoy, no less.
Slavery that you have to pay for the privilege to enjoy, no less.
Exactly! That’s what is so brilliant about it!
Private businesses are NOT allowed to have unpaid interns (I’m not sure if this is a federal rule or it differs state-to-state). You MUST pay them something (hence there’s a lot of internships that pay, but maybe only minimum wage or slightly above), and there are a lot of regulations and such about how many you can hire, how long the internship lasts, etc. It’s a bit more lax for the public sector (city offices, etc.) and they tend to get quite a bit of mileage out of their interns, but no one has ever been allowed to CHARGE for the privilege.
Atkins is a genius. He just called his operation a “school” and charged a fortune to a bunch of bright and eager youngsters looking to get their big break. HAHAHAHAHA!!!
It’s brilliant. To actually HIRE staff for screen-printing, packing, graphic design, bookings, show set up, etc. would likely cost him upwards of $100K a year.
Instead, he’s actually getting paid by the labor and they get NOTHING (oh, okay, I think he said he stocked the place with a bunch of Red Bull, so there’s that) but some happy memories and maybe some “experience”.
The website is gone and there has been no mention of this little venture for a few years. I’m guessing some of his “students” blew the whistle on him and he had to either abort mission or he still does it but with a low profile.
What a brilliant, evil, asshole.
So, I wasn’t able to make the article work on my phone even with Java off, anybody feel like copying and pasting for me? I actually was dumb enough to want to go to his “school” at the time he announced it, totally thought about moving to Chicago for it, but didn’t have the funds. Then I heard what was really going on and, well… dodged a bullet there.
I can’t get the article either. I’m not signing up. I could see part of the headline with the word “education” in it, though, so I am definitely interested in what this article has to say.
