Atari's back!

Not sure if this has broken mainstream yet or whatever… but, this is pretty cool.

While Atari doesn’t have as much clout with the current consumer as they once had, I think if they can manage to pump out a mean launch lineup and avoid a repeat of the Jaguar disaster they’d be much welcomed.

Man, I can still remember the Christmas Day in the early 80s when I got my first 2600…it was like the fucking heavens parted…there was a good week there where all I had was Combat(the cartridge that came free with the console) and I was just fine with that…

Atari was way before my time but through the magic of emulation and the various mobile games Atari has launched i get to experience this stuff. Pretty hyped to see this legendary company back in town again. I’m not too happy with this current gen of consoles.

Space Invaders in 4k!!

That’s cool, man…thanks for the link…I remember when Colecovision came along as the next big thing but alas it was never the same…

Maybe Gunnar will finally get his E.T. game.

Did anyone see that doc about them unearthing that landfill occupied with shit loads of ET cartridges?

Did anyone see that doc about them unearthing that landfill occupied with shit loads of ET cartridges?

I did. That’s why I brought it up.

Yeah, I figured…

That really was one of the worst games ever…

Now Pitfall on the other hand…that was the shit…

Pitfall 1 & 2 for sure.

Defender was golden.

That’s pretty cool!

I didn’t own an Atari as a kid, although we had an Apple II and they released most of same titles on that platform as well.

I picked up a 7800 at a flea market, along with a bunch of games a few years back. Some of them are still fun.

Combat rocks!

I remember having a 2600. Man, that was a long time ago. It had a finicky power connection though, so you really had to work it to get it going sometimes. My favorite was a racing game - I’ll be damned if I remember the title.

I wonder what happened to that damned thing? lol

JLW- was the racing game Pole Position?

Revco-Defender was definitely golden…so was Joust and Zaxxon…the 2600 Pac Man was a piece of shit…

There was actually a rarely remembered 2600 game called Superman that was one of my faves they ever released…I used to play that shit for hours…

I actually loves the simplicity of the Pinball game…spent lots of hours on that one…

Fuck man,I am so old I can remember the pre-2600 days of Pong…my grandfather bought one and it just played through your TV…I loved that shit…and then one day my friend and I went to a local ice cream shop and I saw my first arcade game(Space Invaders) and I fucking flipped my wig…life changing moment…

I’m right there with you QB. I had all these units. pong>2600>coleco. i did the first video game easter egg in Adventure on my 2600. all it was-was you did a series of things and when you finished the game developers names scrolled across the screen. read about how to do it in a magazine i bought. we also had the first pong game. the one we had was made by Magnavox. my father worked for whirlpool appliances and those things were sold in appliance stores so my dad brought us one home. coleco. man. that was the one that had zaxxon. we all lost our shit because it had that 3d affect that hadn’t been done at home yet. then they also had that smurf game that was hot. after those three units i went the Sega route not Nintnedo. I wanted to play the games that were in the video game shops and not kids games.

i still play video games today. i’ve got an xbox one and play on my PC. currently my favorite game is Battlefield 1. Great fucking game.

I had a TRS-80 Model I at that time. This was how we did it. Check out this video:

shit yea, man. my first computer was the Timexsinclair.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timex_Sinclair_1000

loaded games on that fucker with cassette tapes playing digital noise that loaded the scripts.

That was it Slack the fucking Magnavox!!! Fuck I was searching my brain for that name…and you are correct in that Zaxxon was coleco…I also went the Sega route before Nintendo…sounds like we lived parallel gaming lives haha…this thread has got me very nostalgic…I am going through the memory banks trying to remember some of the more obscure games of the time…

Not obscure but Missle Command was a big one for me…

I rolled out 2600 a couple of years ago. My games:

ET on my TV

I have a 2600 decorating my living room.

So, we have a game room over our garage. We’ve got a professional Foosball table an old Abra Ca Dabra Pinball machine (not working at the moment -Pop Bumper is broken) Electric drums for the kid. A bunch of guitars and Bass and I’ve pretty much built an old school console museum up there. So far I’ve got my original Nintendo 8 bit, Super Nintendo, N64, Wii/Gamecube, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, My original Atari 7800 (although I have my original 2600 as well) and an Old Atari 5200. They all work and my son and I play them often.

I’d like to get an original Colecovision (no way my parents were paying 200 dollars for this for a 6 and 9 year old when it came out) but they are still expensive as hell on Ebay and a Turbo grafix 16 but like the colecovision it is way expensive on ebay and my local swap meets don’t carry systems like this, so unless I can find a deal it’ll probably be a while before I get either of them. My sweet wife did buy me a flashback colecovison a couple years back but it’s not the same. [:(] I still appreciate it though. [:)]

I’ll try to get a pic up if anyone is interested.

Same here my friend.

I am not too interested in those old consoles because the games are bad versions of arcade games that you can play using MAME. I want to create a MAME console of some sort. Either a cocktail table or a mini standup. You can play 1000s of games on those.

That’s an achievable goal.
