Apparently, there's a new My Bloody Valentine album

Released tonight, but the site crashed in minutes. Waiting game until the site comes back up.

I’ll wait a day or two for the furor to die down.

Don’t blame you. Things seem to be calming down now though. Finally got it about a half hour ago. 16 bucks for a download though…

The furore will never die down! It’s MBV! They are about to become the biggest bandwagon band. Well I guess they already hold that prize… for the last 20 years.

The fact that their server crashed in mere minutes should say enough. I didn’t expect that. I always kinda figured they had more of a cult following, but nothing like that.

Hell finally froze over…

The digital download is $16? The CD is $22?
Fuck you, My Bloody Valentine.

That’s an invitation to torrent if I’ve ever seen one.

Listening now. Sounds like it was recorded in 1993. Which may or may not be a bad thing depending on your point of view.

Decent but hardly earth shattering.

Anyone know when the physical copy is released??

Whenever they send it to you?
AFAIK it’s only available through their website.

Hmmm…I’m sure there’ll be an official release date eventually.

This. Who knows if it’ll hit retail at some point. But, right now its just available straight from them for the hefty low price of 22 bucks.

I think I read on Pitchfork that it will be released in a few weeks first on cd and then vinyl. And the artwork being used for the album will not be the final artwork for the hard copy.

That’s a good thing, because the artwork is pretty boring. Which is not what I usually say about their two LPs, artwork or otherwise.

As for the music, I agree with Peligro. That’s what procrastination does for you. In retrospect, maybe procrastination was a good thing for Al…

I suckered up and bought the CD / digital download. Thoughts: Aside from the atrocious mid-00’s mySpace cover art and the dumb name (couldn’t think of anything better, Kevin?), it’s a pretty good album. It’s not “Loveless” (nothing ever will be) and it’s not a game changer, which is what people expected after 22 years of anticipation. But it’s a decent slice of noise-pop/shoegaze. Word to the wise: You’re gonna want to pirate this one. Not to piss off those who support the music industry, but Shields is simply charging waaaaay too much for a simple digital download. (My CD/dd combo came to $28. Okay, I understand the complicated/expensive shipping from UK to US, but still… a 22-year wait allows me to justify the expense to myself, but it does not justify milking your fanbase for everything they’re worth. We’ve been patient enough.)

I heard a bit of it last night and thought it was pretty bland and uninspired. Will need to listen to more.

It’s a good album from a great band.
It’s funny seeing folk getting the hump about it not making their heads explode - it was mainly written in a time before the internet as it is today and before many people fell into a trap of constant and frantic musical gratification, downloading music all the time and listening to it on shite speakers or listening devices designed to cover up recording flaws.
Isn’t Anything and Loveless both benefit from repeated listens, MBV is most likely the same. I enjoyed the second listen more than the first and am looking forward to getting the record or cd so I can hear it properly. Youtube and good quality headphones is not quite enough. It’s not too expensive either - they owe fans nothing. I hate this “the customer is always right” attitude in music. Complete horseshit.
