Yeah, Red Ded Sabaoth did nothing for me. To my ears it just sounded like the previous few albums, but rawer.
New to danzig?!?!? Wow virgin ears! Yeah like gunnar said 1-4 are outstanding but i’ll go a little further and say lucifuge is the absolute crowning jewel of those first four.
4 starts to drift in the direction he takes the band in the next 15 years but but is still a good album and I think deth red is a return to form. You can pretty much ignore black acid evil all the way up to deth red.

Yeah, 1-4 are absolutely stunning, i think Lucifuge and How The Gods Kill are the best out of those. I’ve bought them all except Blackacidevil - tried listening to it a couple of times and got nowhere - and they all have their moments of greatness. I used to view Danzig s a laughing stock because of his macho posturing, but really i was just ignorant of the man’s absolute fucking genius, i was totally wrong about him. How The Gods Kill is one of the very best albums i’ve ever heard, and his band on those first 4 records is just unimpeachably brilliant.
When i met Tommy Victor a few years ago (on The Last Sucker tour) one of the first things i said was that Danzig being knocked out by that North Side Kings dude was one of the funniest things i’d ever seen. He didn’t agree, and he was really complimentary about Danzig, said he paid well and was a decent guy.
Now i think that the fact he seems to take it so seriously (and his macho posturing) is one of the things that makes him such an amazing artist. He doesn’t give a fuck if stupid people like me laugh at him, and he shouldn’t. The man has an incredible musical legacy. My hat is off to him, and i hope i get to see him on this Euro tour.
I always heard the first 4 were the only good albums, but having heard almost all of them i can say that’s not true at all. From Lost Tracks, Warlock is amazing; it sounds like an 8-bit Satanic ritual console game theme!

Oh, i got Eerie Von’s book of photography, very nice book. As you guys said, that band on I-IV is just awesome, really stupendously great. The video for Bodies makes me laugh every time, Eerie should have been sacked for smiling though.

When I lived in WA state I had “How the Gods Kill” on cassette. I used to ironically put it on at the record store I worked at until I realized that my irony was bullshit and it was a genuinely great album. Then that cassette lived in my car along with the 6ths first album and the first Garbage album. It still holds up too, its easily my favorite of his, though I really dig 4 too. Haven’t spent too much time with 1 and 2, truly need to.
I knoe im in the minority but I actually liked blackaciddevil as it reminded me of Danzig singing over the first 1000 Homo DJs EP. Haven’t heard anything past that, but now I’m getting interested again.

I lved Rollins’ reaction, can’t remember where i heard about it, something along the lines of “Uhhh, has Glenn seen this? Because i guarantee he won’t be happy”. Anyway, i don’t think Danzig needs to lighten up to be honest, if anything i hope he gets even darker haha, that’s part of the magic of it all, that he is so deadly serious. Not too far off, actually. The reason that album made me so mad was not that it was horrible music, but that it was an absolute WASTE of one of the world’s strongest and most unique vocal talents. I don’t buy a Danzig album to hear some dime-a-dozen industrial metal, I buy it to hear that deep voiced surly dwarf crooning the crap out of some wicked rock and blues jams!
Danzig albums used to stand alone as something special and unique. What other artist could get away with a CD cover featuring a close-up of his own hairy titties and have not only wicked blackened biker metal jams but some crusty ass Delta blues and pit of your soul emo crooning that would make Englebert Humperdink rip off his own cock and choke himself with it. Yeah, it’s that friggin’ good.
And then he pulls this Blackacidevil crap . . . In 1996 when White Zombie, NIN, Ministry, Nitzer Ebb and 1 trillion others had already made the same album. He gutted the greatest band ever (or they fled like mice from a burning building, I don’t even remember the circumstances) and gave us what? KMFDM? It wasn’t a horrible album, it just wasn’t anything up to standard, and seemed like a pathetic attempt to jump on a gravy train that had already left the station 4 years prior. And he did the absolute unforgivable sin of putting his vocals through distortion.
He must have been inspired by George Lucas or something.
I lved Rollins’ reaction, can’t remember where i heard about it, something along the lines of “Uhhh, has Glenn seen this? Because i guarantee he won’t be happy”.
It’s actually a tag on the book and it might not be Rollins because the quote is attributed to “Henry” not necessarily Rollins.

Let me just clarify one thing about Glenn . . . some say he’s a big giant douche and has no sense of humor. Others say he doesn’t give an eff and he’s awesome. Blah blah blah.
The truth is . . . he’s a giant douche with no sense of humor and he takes himself way too seriously and he makes himself easy fodder for guys like me who love to make fun of such macho buttholism.
But that doesn’t take away from his awesomeness. He’s quite akin to Yngwie Malmsteen in this respect (another arrogant prick super far lodged up his own rectum, but who cares, because he rules!).
Glenn doesn’t need to be fun. He doesn’t need to be nice. He doesn’t need to laugh or smile or be able to take a joke. He’s Glenn-f**king-Danzig, thank you very much.
I love the guy. But that doesn’t get him a free pass for his douchey douchiness.
They took down the website and any evidence of its existence, but did anyone besides me catch back in the early 2000’s when Glenn had his own SOFTBALL team in Ohio (I swear to God I am not making this up). It was amazing. Guess what their team was called? Uhhh, DANZIG, actually. Their team jerseys actually said DANZIG SOFTBALL TEAM on them.
There was an amazing team photo that had him with his shear mesh top standing without a smile or hint of emotion next to his proud softball team. Come on! That stuff is golden. I think they erased all shreds of evidence that it even existed because I and maybe others were a little too vocal about it on a number of the online bulletin boards.
