Apollo 11 Moon Landing - 50th Anniversary

Who is old enough to remember this when it happened?

Duran Duran performed at the Kennedy Space Center earlier this week to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 launch date.

I was 7 years away from being born, so… no.
But I’m glad they went!

I guess I was 11 at the time, soon to be 12. I remember watching it live in the small living room of the house my brothers and I grew up in. People who are too young to remember or who hadn’t been born yet don’t realize just how much the Space Program permeated the culture. Everything from desktop coin banks to breakfast cereal to clothes and even snack food seemed to be space themed at the time. We all thought we’d be living on Mars someday.

I had no way of knowing at the time that one day I’d actually be working at the Johnson Space Center. Still the happiest and most rewarding days of my life.

I remember it too! Do they still make that stuff? It was a staple for us on camping trips.

They were hawking that stuff again with the challenger back in the 80s

I was born nearly 20 years after Apollo 11. Funny, they held a press conference after the mission and all the astronauts looked really irked. if you believe the conspiracies out there they claimed they saw an alien ship on the moon and weren’t allowed to talk about it. Could explain the weird vibe during that conference. I mean this was a momentous occasion, we landed on the moon, shouldn’t these guys have been ecstatic? Really fishy.

Anyway, I doubt we could ever replicate or surpass that monumental event in our lifetimes. Maybe in a few hundred years when we accomplish interstellar travel and find intelligent life somewhere, maybe that’ll be the next big one for us.

Somehow I doubt a manned mission to Mars would capture peoples attention the way Apollo 11 did. With smartphones and all the crap we use to mentally jerk off it just wouldn’t keep our attention for long.

They still make it, believe or not. I had to look that one up. I sometimes had it when I was a kid, was never a huge fan of it. Might try it again for nostalgia sakes.

Thats not a bad idea. Thats sounds pretty good

That’s great! I’ll have to try it. Russian Tea courtesy of a product that was made for the US astronaut program. LOL.
