Sweet, thanks!
Funny this thread just revived, as I was going to write about crawling out from under a rock and finally listening to this.
Ya know…I was really surprised by how unaffected I was by much of the new record, and how much of it seems like a playing-to-one’s-target-audience affair. In particular the samples from which the drum kits / rhythm tracks are formed sound quite conventional or not differentiated enough from the rest of the ‘braindance’ school as exemplified by Squarepusher etc. I wish something more bold had been done with the percussion in particular; since the skittering tempi are very “predictably unpredictable” by now and need extra sonic seasoning of some kind.
Now, the cupboard of electronic patches and settings is still very well-stocked, though it lacks some of the alien timbral quality and odd pitch intervals that characterized Drukqs. I may be a victim of my own fondness for that record…this one isn’t the equal of that one in terms of affectivity.
I find I’m using Syro as background music while doing homework, rather than contemplating it on its own. Which means it does serve some kind of function, just not the one function that I prefer to use Aphex Twin music for, i.e. giving that temporary illusion that I’m able to transcend the limitations of my senses.
I rate it three smirking RDJ faces out of a total five…

I agree with your assessment. “richard d james” is my personal fave tho.

D/Ling right now. I had given up hope of the files getting indexed this fast. Thank you for the links!

And apparently, he also released “Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt2” EP this week. Just got it.
Any overlap of songs or similarities?
Tomasz - if you’re a Drukqs guy, this might be more up your alley.
The tracks got re-released in 320kbps form vs. the originals that were at 128kbps.
But, are they really 320? I’m guessing they’re just transcodes. Either way, it’s better than nothing. Some of this stuff is absolutely amazing. Yet to listen to all of it…
They are supposed to be. RDJ uploaded them himself after the first set of 128s was released.

I scored a vinyl copy of this over the weekend. It definitely is more “Drukqs-sounding”. Bit of a shame it wasn’t a tiny bit longer.
