Anti-Pop Consortium Big Up With Sympathy LP

I was just listening to the Ninja Tune September 2009 Podcast which features Anti-Pop Consortium talking about their new album and influences etc…anyway at 18:00mins Sayeed is talking about influences etc and says “if you haven’t heard or got this one hunt it down…Ministry’s “With Sympathy”…great production and great songwriting”. It was quite funny hearing this Hip Hop artist in a thick New York City accent bigging up With Sympathy along with these other classic obscure records?!

I’d actually really recommend Ninja Tunes Podcasts as they’re pretty cool. Basically they interview an artist and play snippets of their up coming record…then the artist will talk about influences and play snippets of their fave records. The podcasts are free…just head over to itunes and type in Ninja Tune Podcasts.

I’d also really recommend Anti-Pop Consortium’s output…especially their albums “Arrhythmia” and “Fluorescent Black”, as they’re incredible records. A killer mixture of cutting edge electronica and hip hop among other things.

Cool. James Murphy just talked up “With Sympathy” in his Pitchfork interview. Seems there’s a bit of a revival for Al’s abortion.

Update…it’s actually 23:55 (18:00mins left on podcast) that “Sayyid” (spelling correction) talks about it…he actually went on to say that it was his fave album of all-time and that every single song was a winner and that the album’s production and songwriting was phenomenal!

He also goes on to encourage everyone to definately hunt it down.

Classic.

Personally I think the album is pure cheese although it is what it is…a great Synth Pop album that obviously influenced numerous folk.

I’ve got to admit that Sayyid naming With Sympathy as his all-time fave album was a surprise.

Well, it really sounds like very little else at the time. It’s not surprising that people like it so much.
Would’ve been better if they’d dropped some of the “The studio had a gun to my head! Seriously!” tracks and substituted them with Same Old Madness or I’m Falling, but still.
