Anselmo/Down news

from blabbermouth:

According to a posting on legendary rock photographer Ross Halfin’s official web site, Philip Anselmo (DOWN, PANTERA, SUPERJOINT RITUAL) has begun work on his autobiography. He’s writing a book about his time doing what he does and it’ll include his time in PANTERA.

Philip Anselmo revealed in an online post last week that DOWN has recorded at least six new songs for a possible new release which may also include previously unreleased material from the “Over the Under” sessions.

bring it on I say.

Oh cool. Should be a good read.

Pantera when on form were a great metal band, maybe even the best. Never got round to checking out Down or SJR, might do in the future. Anselmo though strikes me as a bit of an ass. His lyrics, though he seems passionate, suggest hes a bit of a redneck. The shit he was talking about Dimebag before he was killed was an example of where he should have been a little smarter and shut up. On the live 101 album he sounds like a total ass when speaking in between songs, he could exercise a bit more reserve/restraint but then again his business is metal so who cares really. Does he still have heroin problems or has he been clean for a while? I know he relapsed a few times.

My old metal friends from high-school will sploodge all over themselves when they hear some new Down stuff, and especially about Anselmo’s new book.

“Stone The Crow”, when that came out, helped define some of my moments in high-school. Good memories.

lol, down were 2nd support act for the metallica show here in st. petersburg recently. they were ok, but i never heard of them, i’m surprised that it was anselmo.

He used to be an absolute ass, but these past couple of years he has turned it all around, and most of the time comes across as a very humble, positive individual. I believe he’s clean now, at least off the hard stuff. His interviews are a bit rough, kind of like ozzy.

And I don’t think anyone can question his passion for music. His singing is amazing and he’s one of the best metal frontmen I’ve ever heard.

Do yourself a favor and indulge yourself into Down. Start with the first album. I think I like them more than Pantera at this point.

I missed them last year, so this is great news. I absolutely need to see Down and meet the man, hopefully. I absolutely love Phil, and he’s the final musical hero for me right now that I want to meet. His comeback from the latest Down album and his matured attitude from the live boots I’ve heard are inspiring.

Cool, sounds good. Il certainly check out Down soon. Cheers.

I love Down and SJR, but it sounds like Phil still has his off days. Check out this interview from Scotland earlier this year:

I do look to the new Down stuff, though.

I have a copy of this record on MP3. Scammed it from a guy on the net who wanted me to pay him to send them to me on cd. I can’t access the page at work, but I have the link saved:

The link to the page should be there somewhere.

I had the Haunted House LP’s as a kid and I wanted to have them again. Then I found some other ones that I had totally forgot I had even had.

I was very pleased.

I remember phil used to mention in interviews that his house in New Orleans was haunted
