The setlist was predictable.
I don’t ever expect Al to change so I’m pleasantly surprised any time there’s even a minor tweak. (Filth Pig would have made me pee my pants).
Whatever. I really go to these shows to party and get weird, but I still enjoy the show too. Band was good and put in their requirements. Maybe it’s from whatever angle Grumpy was hearing things from, but I thought ever track was clear and recognizable. Punch in the Face and Lies were awesome and everyone went nuts.
I didn’t particularly care for Twilight Zone as an opening track. Kind of fucking lame to kick off a show with the slowest track. But “Victims of a Clown” with Burton had some more energy so that’s when I got the pit started, haha.
Oh, and the crowd was really terrific. I got in exactly ZERO fights and there weren’t any douchebros fucking things up for anyone else. All good vibes.
VOID was awesome. His buddies were in attendance (Ryan Frankenstein and . . . Chase, I think was the name of the other dude). And it was fun getting radical with them, especially since Ryan is a tiny dude and it was fun tossing him around like a doll, hahaha. Great kid. It’s funny that Grumps says he was jocking MM’s schtick which I assume refers to the dramatics and such. I actually wanted Void to be WEIRDER and wilder. His sets at Chain Reaction were a lot more gonzo, I thought, and really fun in their goofy insanity. But he fucking drilled it regardless. Even gave us a TIKKY TIKKY TIKKY shout out, hahaha. The comment about the age of the crowd is appropriate, but it was ironic that Void’s cover of “KILLING AN ARAB” didn’t get more of a reaction. I thought for sure that would draw people together, but it felt like only Frankenstein and I knew the song, hahhaaha.
Chelsea Wolfe? Fuck. That. Snoozefest.
Okay, I admit I didn’t watch ANY of her set and went straight outside to drink more and crack jokes.
One thing I noticed about this Ministry show was the SERIOUS lack of hot chicks. Usually there’s a decent contingent of some pretty, slutty, and pretty slutty goth, industrial, metal, etc. chicks. But it was a fucking graveyard as far as I’m concerned. I had some homegirls to hang with, and it was still a great night, but . . . . I just like it more when the crowd is a bit more sightly.
For a Ministry show, it was right there in the meaty part of the curve. Nothing revolutionary or anything, but solid show and a lot of fun . . . . and still better than any other crap being offered.
