Amoeba trip

No mark of cain (at all)
and “no endless summer” they had every other fennesz release but not “endless summer.” couple live cds that aren’t even offered on fennesz’s page were there.
the titles I remember were, Venice, Black sea, field recordings, live at the revolver, live in japan.

They had a tool Aenema original vinyl still sealed for 300 bucks
they had a prison sex picture vinyl for 200 bucks.

but on to what I could afford:

I got a “sexo olympico” advanced copy. complete with electronic press kit web address and password. If anyone is interested in looking at the press kit for the up-coming tour, pm me and I’ll hook you up with the info. It’s got group pics, tour dates vip info, a breakdown of what each song means lyrics etc.
so that was a cool big score for only $3.99

Picked up Type O’ Negative world coming down because a few here said it was similar in sound to dsots

Mixed compilation cd called “funky alternatives 8” with, funnily enough, the crackin’ up amyl mix. theres some Godflesh “pure spite” on it as well. I’ll list the tracks on it at the bottom of the post.

Picked up 2 NIN singles. the headlike a hole 10 track maxi single. and the 4 track Sin Single. I’m still a big fan of PHM. so I thought I’d just pick 'em up since I haven’t seen 'em for sale ever.

Finally, I picked up Tom Morello’s new project. Street Sweeper Social Club. I haven’t heard it yet but I’ve heard from others that it’s similar to rage So I’ll give it a listen. Cant be any worse than the nightwatchman’s first cd (never listened to the second offering from that project).

I Picked up 1 blu ray and that was “Bad Boy Bubby.”
I haven’t seen it. I net flixed it and ripped an ISO of it but then my comp crashed and we already had sent the movie back and I didn’t feel like re ordering it again and there it was for blu ray for 25 bucks. and several have commented on how good and fucked up it was so I figured what the hell.

FUNKY ALTERNATIVES 8 TRACK LISTING
“Ultraviolence”-Bombs In My Head(exclusive track)
“Optimum Wound Profile”-You: Coma(Exclusive track)
“Pop Will Eat Itself” -MeNoFearTheReaper(Birds, liquor, and pot mix)
“Godflesh”- Pure Spite(exclusive mix for the cd)
“Revco”
“Pig” - Momentous Lamertous (Exclusive Track)
“Judda”- We Know Who You Are (Exclusive Track)
“Gunshot” -Mind Of A Razor(Instrumental Remix)
“Mussolini Headkick” -Compassion(Exclusive Track)
“Surfers For Satan”-Closeout (Exclusive Track)
“Shining” -Obsession(Exclusive Track)

You are in for a real treat my friend. This is probably my fav movie of all time. It’s a rollercoaster from the most disturbing madness to pure comedy genius to really touching moments to deep and meaningful scenes that come from nowhere. This film really is one of a kind if you can make it through the first 20mins! I’d watch this by yourself before showing it to your other half Smurf…you’ll LOVE showing this to unsuspecting friends too by the way. I’ve probably seen this film about 20 times…I just LOVE the look on my mates faces during that first 20mins.

I had no idea this was out on Blu-ray.

I didn’t think they’d have Mark Of Cain’s “Ill At Ease” Smurfy…If they did they would have charged you up the ass for it anyway. Go to the Mark Of Cain thread and get it from amazon.com and pick it up from somewhere in California new & sealed for around $14 if I remember correctly.

They were great live this summer opening for nin/ja
The cds pretty good too. Not as good as they were live though

Excellent fucking score, man. Tell me what you think of World Coming Down. That disc was my intro to Type O, and more than likely most, if not all, metal and industrial I listen to now. Holds a special place in my heart. “White Slavery,” “Everything Dies,” and “Creepy Green Light”…

FUCK, the memories. I was the coolest twelve-year-old ever.

GOD, I LOVE THE FOUR DICKS

Amoeba is on my list of things to do when I am in L.A. in Sept.

‘Live At Revolver’ was recorded by a friend of mine and released on his own label. ‘Live In Japan’ is amazing and rather rare. You should have picked it up. ‘Black Sea’ is the latest one and is definitely worth shelling out for.

They had a tool Aenema original vinyl still sealed for 300 bucks

Yikes.

Next time you are at Amoeba, ask for the Earth remix album ‘Legacy Of Dissolution’. They will know what you are talking about…no need to nod or wink or give a secret handshake. J Broadrick is one of the remixers on it. Trust me, it will enlighten you as to what a TALENTED artist can do when handed the task of a remix - unlike that Sexx-O Fukk-O nonsense.

Not really impressed. I took it out before I got all the way through it, in order to put in type O. It just falls flat. the music is ok I guess, although, I hate to say it, but Morello has become musically predictable at this point. Which is no big deal I suppose, if he had the right frontman. I like boots Riley’s lyrics he has an excellent social agenda and he’s got a nice flow, but his delivery, just like Morello, falls flat. I would LOVE to hear De La Rocha lay down those lyrics in his usual anger. there’s more anger in one song from One Day As A Lion than all of the songs I’ve heard so far from SSSC. And based on the lyrics that I’ve read Boots really needs to sing/rap those angry!

Excellent fucking score, man. Tell me what you think of World Coming Down.

Well so far, I’ve only made it through four tracks but i certainly like what I hear. Although, I got to tell you, I think it was you that sold me this cd in that it was in the same vein as TDSOTS. Upon the first couple tracks I hear No DSOTS. but not to worry when I first recognized it wasn’t going to be DSOTS I switched gears and went in with a clean slate, And I’m really diggin it! MUCH different from bloody kisses, very cool, cause with the exception of a few tracks I’ve always considered bloody kisses as more of a novelty record than a serious effort. excellent recomendation Ice… So far [pirate]! j/k[:P]

Amoeba is on my list of things to do when I am in L.A. in Sept.

Well, do this, as far Amoeba is concerned…
1.make a list of All the things you want, rare and not so rare.
2. Same with movies, imports and domestic, dvds as well as blu ray.
3. Clear roughly 3.5 to 4 hours off of your day to aptly account for the amount of time you’re gonna want to spend there
4.think about how much money you want to spend there and then DOUBLE THAT AMOUNT! because for every item on your list you’re probably gonna find another item you hadn’t counted on! to give you an example I went on Saturday to get 2 albums, “Ill At Ease” and “Endless Summer” both of those were not there and I still spent 92 dollars!!!
This announcement was brought to you by:
“grmpysmrf’s rules for Amoeba.”
The wifey and and I
spent 3-4 hours the first 5-6 times we went down there… Oh man if you like collecting you are in for a paradise- also if you have any cds/movies (even VHS but don’t expect to get too much for them unless they are super rare) you can bring them and trade for cash or a little bit more in store credit.

Live In Japan’ is amazing and rather rare. You should have picked it up. ‘Black Sea’ is the latest one and is definitely worth shelling out for.

I may still pick up Live at Japan, it was 25 Bucks (going back on friday)and I thought about picking it up cause it was the most expensive one Plus it was a boot. (I like boots)-the Australian boot was 19 dollars) But ALL of the Fennesz cd’s were expensive, I don’t think there were any there for under 16 bucks, even used. He’s filed under the experimental section which is a pretty big section, actually, Who knew there were that many experimental artists?
As far as the new Fennesz CD goes, what does it sound like? I’ve been really amped to pick up “Endless summer” because you said it was close in sound to Jesu “Silver,” I adore that album. I don’t really have the cash to throw around on expensive albums which I may or may not like. It was easy to do with Jesu cause those were cheap used! can’t really do that with Fennesz.

I’ll look into it. what kind of music is it? drone? rock? industrial??

$US25 is no big deal for a cd. That’s around AUS$32. If I’m buying an import in a store, I’m paying around AUS$38 or more. And Live In Japan is definitely worth it - however, now that I think about, it’s probably not the best place to start. Buy the new one, Black Sea. Definitely. It’s instantly appealing to Jesu fans like yrself as it has all of JKB’s minimalist tradmarks. It’s very beautiful and haunting, but gritty and textured - like the soundtrack to a cold, grey, windy day on a beautiful but desolate beach as winter approaches. When you finally here it you will know what I mean. But - and this is a big BUT - be prepared for the fact that it is DIFFICULT music and not for the average mall shoppin’ music buyer. It may take some time to sink in. It DOESN"T have beats or noticable rythmic structure.

You might also want to check out some Brian Eno too while you are at it as he is the master when it comes to that kind of thing. Namely Ambient4: On Land. One of my top 10 all time favourite albums.

Who knew there were that many experimental artists?

I hope you are kidding.

I’ll look into it. what kind of music is it? drone? rock? industrial??

I suppose it’s ‘drone metal’. This particular cd is quite experimental - as the original tracks have been mutated and twisted in all sorts of interesting ways - but you’ll probably find it a little more…approachable than Fennesz. And the Jesu track is insane. Just utterly superb.

most people in the bay area consider Amoeba a overpriced tourist trap, bad boy bubby can be had at amazon brand new sealed on blu ray for under 10 bucks.

everything you mentioned can be tracked down on ebay or amazon at a fraction of what you paid.

patience is profitable…

My wife said the same thing about Frisco’s Amoeba, LA’s isn’t quite as so. I’d say the advance of Revco being 4 bucks isn’t over priced at all especially since I can’t find it anywhere else.
like any store you got good deals and bad deals generally LA is very pricey for movies, but not so with music. but I knew that before buying it.
So whatever,

World Coming Down

Well, aight. Granted, musically, there’s nothing that touches DSOTS, but FUCK, man, those lyrics and vibes are pretty much dead-on. It’s a drugged-out, depressing, hard-rocking, sludgy and surprisingly humorous disc. I like it.

Agreed about “Bloody Kisses,” too. With the exception of the likes of “Kill All the White People” and “Too Late: Frozen,” the whole album is way too tacky for my tastes these days. I like their Carnivore-sounding stuff a hell of a lot more.

See, and the only ones I really like on Bloody Kisses are the seals and croft remake summer breeze and black No.1. it’s pretty funny cause Kill All The White
people was specifically the song I had in mind when I wrote “novelty record”…[;)] It’s all good
though!

I think october rust was is my fav when it comes to type o. Pete says he’ll never made another cd like it though cause he’s old and fat now and doesn’t feel romantic. I love their sense of humor

October Rust is probably the best sell-out album of all time.

“Hey, the goth chicks ate up Black No. 1 and Christian Woman. Think of how much we could sell (and how much tang we could get) if we did a WHOLE ALBUM like that!”

The amazing part is, it kicked ass.

‘October Rust’ is the best. Arguably their only essential album. I think I read an interview before with either Pete or Josh that it didn’t sell that well though. But feck that, it’s great. I’ve been listening to it since it came out. It’s total mood music. Feck the bottle of wine, the single rose and all that other hassle, just have this album playing and you’re a shoo-in. That or some L. Cohen.

it’s not sell out at all… i don’t think of it as a goth album really, more a nature album. I mean “wolf moon” and “red water christmas”? those were totally not meant to be pop hits at all… now pyretta blaze off world coming down is more of a pop hit then anything off october rust, except maybe my “girlfriends girlfriend”

it only just hit gold i think earlier this year. I think roadrunner really dropped the ball with type O when they had them. They seemed to fuck up alot of good artists careers. They used to have alot of good metal bands… Now their big thing is nickleback. But god do I hate roadrunner. I don’t think there has been really any cd of thiers save the really bad sellers that doesn’t get re-released 4 months later with bonus tracks and a new package. They’ve been doing that since actually bloody kisses i think right? or did demanufacture come first?

Who said anything about pop hits?
I was referring to the dark romantic shit that appeals to goth chicks.

Was Sepultura’s ARISE before demanufacture? That had some fancy cardboard case that unfolded into a crucifix. (been looking for that one for a while, never found it at a reasonable price).

But that may have been a 1st issue rather than a stupid re-issue. RR are notorious for re-releases and limited editions etc… the 20th anniversary a few years back gave them license to re-re-release stuff too.

heh… I used to have Sepul’s first album on the “Road Racer” imprint, but I lent it to mate and someone stole his bag from the bus. sigh

LOL… road racer… i remember that… and they had the little panther or whatever as the logo… and they used to have the rock against drugs shit in every releases booklet for awhile…
