Amoeba stop

I got some more JKB stuff. I found an import of Life line. Not bad, it reminds me of Pale Sketches. (that’s not a bad thing-although i only listened to the first track) I also picked up a CD that JKB mastered called Transitional nothing real nothing absent I could only make it through the first 5 minutes. I didn’t even listen to the other 4 tracks. ms smrf was bitching about not listening to her Cds so I took it out.
Was gonna get Slave State but It was a 20 dollar reissue and if I like it I’m gonna wanna get the original issue, so I passed on it.
Found a Dead Kennedys Bootleg…I didn’t even know DK had CD bootlegs, I thought they were all cassettes. but It’s called Jello’s revenge sound quality goes from not bad to super shitty.
ALSO, found the WAX TRAX black box…been looking for that for about 2 years now. 25 bucks still sealed.
Also found a copy of Special Affect Vinyl in excellent condition no split seems no corner wear pretty nice!
aaaaaah, I love Amoeba

gotta agree with senor jizz on this one.
but amoeba is a cool store. not quite like wax trax was back in the day(wild gay hillbillies running through the store offerring beer to everyone in sight) but they know their shit there.
i think i like reckless better tho.

My bro picked up ‘Psalm 69’, ‘Filth Pig’, ‘Dark Side of the Spoon’ and Prong’s ‘Rude Awakening’ all for under $20 in an Amoeba store back in '99. Cant beat that.

that Transistional album is Dave Cochrane (jesu - live american tour bassist, ICE, Sweet Tooth, God, GREYMACHINE) + Kevin Laska.

I wasn’t too ‘hot’ on it first listen, but someone said I should play it ‘LOUD’ and they were right, the low end hops out. It’s vaguely post-rock-ish, electronic stuff. Not mindblowing but a good listen.

Amoeba sounds pretty madcool. I get the impression it’s one of those stores that actually has designated areas for black, death, industrial, experimental, etc.

THat’s exactly how it is and now picture it taking up one full square city block

No diggity? You passed on Slavestate? Are you feeling ok? This thing’s essential, man.

Well I have a bid on one on ebay for significantly less so that kinda was in consideration as well

Good call.

I’ll be eager to read your analysis / thots after you win.

Equally heavy and atmospheric.

A necessary album.

I will you give you credit i have been taking some musical suggestions from you for the last 3 or so months. and aside from Jesu S/T you haven’t failed to deliver. Even picked up transitional based on the strength of jkb’s other works… so I’m eager to win slavestate.

Little ‘Slavestate’ Youtubeage:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iFsZ_79i-4

Even half way across the world Amoeba Records has made its presence felt. I know people that have been there. There’s supposedly a record store in San Francisco which is supposed to be unbelievable…the best in the world in terms of ‘out there’ music. I’m not sure if it’s Amoeba…I don’t remember the name! It’s on the tip of my tongue though.

The closest we have to something like that in Melbourne is a place called Missing Link Records. However the last time I went there the selection was crap. It was as if they had sold everything and not bothered to restock.

I just rely on ebay now. I have just purchased a mint copy of the first Jesus Lizard lp, ‘Pure’ on marble vinyl. Nice!

And yeah…Jizz is right, Slavestate is essential. I bought it on vinyl in 1992 and supposedly it’s now worth a fortune.

Smurf…you NEED to get Jesu “Heart Ache”. That should be first on your list of any new Justin stuff you get.

The best Godflesh album as far as i’m concerned was Songs Of Love And Hate. Godflesh with Mantia on drums was totally kick ass. Songs like Gift From Heaven, Time Death & Wastefulness and Hunter can’t be touched. Regardless Slavestate is great stuff…very cold.

Yeah, there is an Amoeba in San Fran but it is extremely small compared to the one in Hollywood.

yeah i think i mentioned in another thread that i picked up ‘slavestate’, representing my intro to the jkb-verse. I was listening to it this morning and its very cool, crushing and synthetic soundic but still deep and sound-scapey. Im probably gonna try songs of love and hate next. i wish we had record stores like that here! almost everything i listen to these days has come from O/S in the form of online record stores or ebay. I crave a real life record store that is actually split up into decent genres, doom, drone, industrial, stoner, power metal, haha. I went to rough trade in london a few years ago and that was pretty awesome, i raided the “Outrock” section, which seems to bee what they call their droney rock, got records by Earth, Hermano and Ufomammut.

That’s right, at the counter the dude goes ‘are you seeing these guys tonight?’ holding up the earth cd. I replied “fuck yeah i am!” so i did, and it was awesome, they were opening for autechre, bizzarely enough.

You passed up “Slavestate”?
