Amoeba Records In Hollywood

If Anyone is near L.A. and Don’t know about Amoeba Records On Sunset, YOU HAVE GOT TO GO!!! This place is BAD ASS! I picked Up Halloween Party today from there for 6 bucks! Also Lead Into Gold (Age Of Reason) on Vinyl $2.99 And Acid Horse(No Name No SLogan) on vinyl $3.99. This Place sells EVERYTHING music and the off beat! The Foreign film section is huge! Copies of Salo and Johnny Got His Gun (from the Metallica ONE Video) the DVDs can be pretty Expensive but the music is dirt cheap!!
new releases are already in the used bin for like 7 bucks. The Used section alone is bigger than most stores Entire stock! I’m pretty stoked I got the Halloween party CD. I got some other music I will be made fun here for purchasing SO I will Admit those and brag about the ministry related Finds. Yay Me!

Sounds cool. If you hadn’t heard Halloween Party, well…hope you like it. I think it rocks the fuck out, personally. But since there aren’t any generic “thrash” riffs, it didn’t seem to go over so well. Still waiting for more Lead Into Gold, myself. Maybe they’ll make an appearance on the upcoming PTP tour (Haha!).
Cheers.

Plus the selection is amazing. I’m convinced that if it exists, Amoeba has it. it’s the only place I’ve ever been to that’s had the Merzbox available on the shelf.
Oddly, I think the only things I ever bought there were used tapes for the car. Great selection there too.

I was there in July of '04, and it was the biggest, most extensive selection of music I’ve ever seen. Good thing I don’t live in Hollywood, or I’d be broke from spending all my money there. The Industrial/Goth section is very nice. Lots of box sets I hadn’t seen in about 15 years, too.

I like Halloween Party, I had heard some before But just Dowloaded Mp3’s based on the suggstions of some of the members of this site. I dig it (but I also Dig DSOTS) I didn’t think I would find it in CD just based on how freakin hard it was to find Mp3’s of and I didn’t find the whole album either. It’s seems like an experiment in story telling using sound only.
I like.

Another Amoeba trip and another score!! I found the Acid Horse Single on CD this time (I bought it on Vinyl About a week ago from there!) This CD is in pristine condition! I also found a 1,000 Homo DJ’s 12’ Single. Apathy and Better Ways. I Didn’t know these songs existed I thought Supernaut was the only thing that 1,000 Homo Dj’s recorded. I’m going to go steal my parents Record player and line out it to my comp and get this vinyl to Mp3! THe Vinyl Is in Brand New condition!.
Also My Ministry& related/Jello biafra Collection is up on soulseek now. My user handle is:

Yeah, Apathy’s a great tune. If you find the Supernaut CD, it includes that 12" (both songs).

I guess you missed “Side Trax?”
Yeah, a lot of us spent time and effort in collecting all of these various side-projects in all of their formats, only to have that cd collect most of them. Balls.
“Supernaut” is prolly my least favorite 1000 Homo’s track, even though it was the first I heard. Keep your eyes peeled for the Mindbomb ‘Segue’ 12", with two Ministry mixes on side b. That’s good stuff, right there. I got my hands on a promo copy, but I’m assuming it was made available for retail as well. I wouldn’t bother with the Red Hot Chili Peppers “Give it Away” single, though. Those “remixes” are just laziness. Interesting story behind it, which I read somewhere on this page, but the songs are boring. That’s one thing that shouldn’t carry the Hypo/Luxa imprint.
Again, though, sounds like a great store. The closest thing comparable near me is a store called Ear X-Tacy, which takes up an entire city block. Great store, but doesn’t seem to have the variety Amoeba does. Incidently, many years ago, they had a television commercial that was just flashing images of bands, album covers, pics of the store, and random pics of employees and the like - but it was set to “Deity.” It was always cool to be flipping through channels late at night and suddenly come across a seizure-inducing montage set to about a minute of classic Ministry. Sweet.

Oh yeah, Side Trax, I never ordered it because of the whole mono sound issue on the early pressings. I should order that sometime. I do have Early Trax, which is nice (except for the artwork, ugh).

Amoeba fucking owns. I went to the one in san Fransisco and got the original vhs releases of Depeche Mode - Devotional & Skinny Puppy - Aint It Dead Yet?, couple Godflesh singles, couple Killing Joke singles, Black From The Dead, and some other cool-arse shiznite. Biig phatty selection of great old and rareish stuff.

I really want to know which one is bigger because my girly and I are thinking about making a trip to San Fran just for Amoeba. Although I guess size doesn’t matter considering San Fran’s Location. I bet they have a huge selection of Dead Kennedy stuff just based on Location Alone!!!

And how is “Grmpysmrfette?” Haven’t seen her on in awhile…and yeah, I know that’s not the right spelling. Anyway, enjoy your trip.

She only posted once, I think. I kinda scolded her for it and told her to get her own handle so she deleted the post! Anway, she’s a little disturbed tonight. I treated her to her first viewing of SALO. She took it pretty hard. hopefully she feels better tomorrow. I don’t think the trip will be until maybe April thanks for the well wishes though.
Although we are going again to hollywood on MLK day!

I’ve been to both the S.F. and Berkeley Amoebas multiple times when I lived in the Bay Area. Best music stores ever. I’ve found so many good things there.

I’ve never been to the L.A. one, but I’ve heard it’s the biggest.
