Actually, I am siding with DJ on this one. He is winning.
We’re sitting around here yammering about his (admittedly annoying) behavior like a goddamn bunch of fishwives. If we really want to eliminate this little toad, we have to bite the bullet and completely ignore him.
From this moment out, I pledge to make this site a better space by shunning DJ. Anyone with me?
We mostly did that for the last two years, and it really makes no difference as to whether he stays on board or not. Despite what he says, he stupidly said “bye forever” to the only thing left in his life that has any meaning to him so he stays. Sad, yes, but so be it.
I’m not emotionally invested in any direction but I figure if he’s gonna keep slumming around here and being a shithead I may as well occasionally remind him of what EVERYONE thinks of him.

Also, what gunnar said, doesn’t matter one way or another. We did the shunning thing (mostly anyway) and nothing changed, so might as well remind him that he’s a liar.

Not typically. But on the topic of YOU specifically, yes. Literally everyone thinks the same about you.
And you know this for a fact, or you would proudly be waving around a single example of one person who doesn’t think you’re a tragic failure. But there aren’t any. And Grumpy and I have more haters than anyone, so it speaks volumes that not one single person is here to support you or take issue with us calling you what you are. Have a great day, Dipshit.

Well considering there’s only like 6 people here now (not counting the various sock puppet accounts created by a dude who barely shows up under his original account anymore and he thinks no one is on to him because he does barely show up) and we all seem to dislike Dj, it would appear he has the distinct honor of having the whole board dislike him.
While, Gunnar, you and I have had more haters over the years we’ve, never had the whole board hate us and we’ve definitely never quit the board forever over it. At worst we’ve mirrored the behavior vomited at us back to the person who started puking all over us to begin with.
We’ve had a lot of people disagree with us over the years and while I usually double down with “proof” or go on to offer a line of reasoning to backup my thought/claims/opinions, you usually calm things down pretty quickly with a better brand of humor than I have and redirect conversations to lighter topics.
Honestly, I would love to change people’s minds and have them agree with my thoughts and opinions, but I’m not stupid enough to believe that would ever be a majority outcome, so instead I’m just as happy to find out why and where we disagree on any given topic. Okay, we disagree Where in this opinion is the disconnect?
You and I got into it once over Vegas. I don’t like Vegas (Although I’m a little warmer to it now) But we probably went back and forth for a couple of weeks over it. I didn’t change your mind and you didn’t change mine, but I understood much better why people would like vegas. And I think you clearly understood why I have the opinions I do. I still don’t necessarily agree with your reasons but I understand Why now and I’m content in knowing why and not needing to change anybody’s mind.
Another really good example is one of my colleagues and politics. She hates politics and ducks her head in the sand whenever there’s any kind of injustice in the world, and for years I’ve always given her shit for it. not mean or anything, but just kinda little quips here and there from civil rights leaders like “you can’t be neutral on a moving train” Howard zinn and I think desmon tutu said “if an elephant has a mouse pinned under his foot and you have no opinion, the mouse will not appreciate your indifference.” (although I’m sure his quote was more eloquent than how i butchered it) and finally after years of trying to get her to take a stand on something/anything and her for years saying nobody’s ever going to change anybody’s mind so why bother talking about it? she told me that she feels helpless because she wants to change those things in society but is completely powerless to do so and it makes her sad and angry to pay attention to it, because by her own admission she’s a control freak, so it’s easier for her not to pay attention.
That sucks! but understanding found. I totally understand and I don’t mess with her anymore about not getting involved. Occasionally she’ll ask my opinions on things she overhears in the news that her husband watches and I’ll give her my take on it but that’s pretty much it. I don’t kid her anymore but I completely understand why she reacts the way she does.
And that is something that seems to be lost on most, It’s not a competition to change a mind. It would be nice if that happened I guess, but why not find out where the misunderstanding/disagreement/explanation really is then you can be comfortable in your disagreement because you both know where break is at.
My friend would always say why bother talking about it, you’re not gonna change anything and when she finally told me why she thinks that and I pointed out to her that maybe it’s not about changing a mind but just understanding… I said I understand you now. I know why you take the don’t look positions that you do. I still don’t agree with it but I know why, i didn’t change your mind and you didn’t change mine but talking about it most definitely did help because through talking I don’t need to tease anymore. there’s nothing I can say or do that’s going to make you not feel helpless when it comes to politics. So, you know, through talking this was worked out without changing any minds. So, she’s a little more open to talking about controversial things because she doesn’t approach it as a mind changing event, but she looks at it like more of a curiosity/misunderstanding event “huh?! I wonder where the actual disagreement or understanding is?”
Gary clearly can do neither of these things. Probably raised in a house where authority was authority and you don’t need a reason because authority is in charge and now that he’s at the age where he’s supposed to be the authority he doesn’t like being questioned. So much so that instead standing his ground and explaining any one of a number of his bullshit opinions he would just rather shit the bed, and pretend to leave forever. because that’s the way it was done in his house and the army. TV gives him an opinion and he doesn’t think about it, just repeats it and doesn’t expect to be questioned on it because he’s at the age where he’s in charge and shouldn’t need to explain.
This guy is clearly unhappy with himself, He’s clearly embarrassed of the crap he’s written over the years (a lot of it racist). And he can’t handle any opinions other than his own (Well, the right wing o spere’s anyway). so instead of trying to find an understanding he pretends to stomp off because how dare anyone question him! and the fact that he can’t offer any opinions past what ol’ Tucker has told him to think pisses him off.
