Al's take on terrorism

In some old interview, Al was asked what he thought about 9/11 and how he would go about responding to U.S-directed terrorism. He answered that the solution involves “world” cooperation that the Bush administration allegedly avoids.

Reality check:

Already most of intelliegnce comes form foreign sources. This has been, and continues to be, a priority under the State Department outreaching policies, especially under Condi Rice.

Further, the main world bodies, like the U.N, have contributed to the problem rather than helping. Under the Iraqui oil-for-food scandal, fat cat UN bureaucrats (e.g., Kofi) stuffed their pockets in blood money to prop up a totalitarian dictatorship, much to the detriment of the Iraqui people. France, Germany and Russia supplied military technology to appease their own insatiable desire for oil and lucrative contracts. (And al alleges that there is some sort of a oil-special-inertest conspiracy in the Bush adminstration!!)

Secondly, there are world cultural issues that prevent world cooperation in the fight against terrorism. In the quest to find Al Queda, intel work with Afghani Kurdish forces, who although amenable to the cause of finding Al Queda, have their own centuries-old concept of “sanctuary.” It seems that the kurds will harbor anyone, friend or foe, who asks for sanctuary. To do otherwise would be a cursed evil that the person or his family could never atone for.

There are many complex roadblocks to reducing terrorism, and world cooperation is a rather simplistic approach.

Y’know, really with so many under the table deals in world politics its hard to know who is paying who off. That’s my only gripe about these kinds of political discussions. Sure, we may be able to postulate a completely valid, ironclad point. But who REALLY knows who is in each other’s pockets? I don’t mean to come off like a conspiracy theorist, but with so much information we flat out do not know (classified files, kickbacks, etc.) I find it difficult to formulate a view on what Bush and the government can do vs. what they are doing. Sorry if i sound counterproductive, it IS an interesting argument, but just pointing fingers and saying “no, it should be done THIS way” without truly knowing all the different forces at work is very hard to take seriously. I think that is a good point about that “sanctuary” thing that you brought up. There’s probably about a million little things like that that get in the way of getting the right people arrested.

That being said I do believe that Bush has done alot, at the very least PR wise, to alienate those who can potentially help us or aid us in cracking down on terrorism. Of course, he’s not the only one, but I do not know enough about other countries to be able to speculate.

9/11 was an inside job
