Al's past/Halloween

isn’t Everyday is Halloween the ultimate point that al was actually a New Wave guy originally. For all his talk about “arista made me do this” “I had heavy songs that appeared 3 records later” etc, wouldn’t Everyday is Halloween prove definitively otherwise. It was released on Wax Trax where al had total creative control, isn’t really that different than with sympathy, and was played on the twitch tours.

I’m amused by Al and love him as much as anyone, but come on Al, admit to your past…it’s not the end of the world, just admit, you were into the new wave shit. I know it’s a tired topic, but it’s equally as tired to hear him still deny it to this day with the same tired “abortion” story

He isnt against new wave per say but I suppose he doesnt care for the manufactured/designed quality of With Sympathy.

Well, read any of the interviews with him on this site from 1983-1985. It’ll pretty much explain why he hated Arista, and why he considers “Halloween” different than that era.

Granted, musically, it sounds similar, but it’s obvious from the tone as well as the lyrics that it is much darker than material on that LP.

Yeah, it kind of forged the way for “industrial dance”. Although in retrospect it’s almost more like electro-gothic as it shares tone more with Bauhaus than Cabaret Voltaire.
