Now that we know about the mess that is Al’s personal life, I seriously wonder what his next career move will be. The FBTE tour aside, what’s next?
To me Al is at a career crossroads and needs to do something to earn back some of the credibility he lost with his longtime fans when Angie was milking the Nu Ministry teet. His lazy approach to the music he was creating became intolerable. He has to do something to right the ship.
If I were consulting Al, I’d be pushing him to contact Julia Nash to see if he could get something released on the new Wax Trax! Label. Not neccesarily a Ministry release but maybe something in the vein of a collaboration. Sascha, Acker, Leeb, Ogre, groovie Man, etc.
Making up with the Book club would be priority #1, but I think that ship has sailed and the bridge is unrepairable.
Any other good ideas out there?
I have an idea, though I’m not sure how feasible it might be given the reputation that precedes Al.
For myself, and a number of friends, immersing ourselves in a foreign culture was literally a life-saver. We all had our varying problems from chronic depression to alcoholism, and we agree that the ‘tabula rasa’ of being in a completely new locale shook things up enough inside of us to allow for serious positive changes.
When I first went to Japan, I could barely read anything and had little idea what was going on, time itself seemed distorted along with my perception of ‘reality.’ Out of this, though, every tiny thing I accomplished - from ordering food to getting new clothes - felt like a huge triumph, and this rediscovery process made it nearly impossible for me to escape into melancholic asshole mode. I think this newfound energy and enthusiasm was visible to everyone around me, and even with my limited communicative skills, I was suddenly getting involved in five times as many fruitful collaborations as I was involved in back home.
So - again, not knowing what effect Al’s rap sheet might have on this process - I might recommend for him to set up shop in some locale, maybe somewhere in central or Eastern Europe where there may be some adoring fans happy to have a ‘star’ in their midst, BUT where he will still have to work to maintain people’s respect.
Maybe he could build a production studio there and be a kind of sonic consultant to new artists - being in a position where his ego would get its requisite stroking, but he would also be genuinely helping out others who want to be heard.

I’d most like to hear him collaborate with Psychic TV.
He needs something to distract from the Aerosmith tattoo on his forehead.
Al’s days of making and producing good music are long gone. The chances of him “discovering and nurturing” new artists who contribute quality and interesting music to the world is IMO zero. The chances of Al discovering and nurturing new artists who contribute horrendously awful and uninteresting music is IMO extremely high.
I think the best we can hope for is Al he does not tour, does not make any more music and takes care of himself and fades away with dignity.
Next career move? Hasn’t he been teaching History for the last 10 years? He’s a college professor, isn’t he? Are we talking about the same Al Jourgensen? Bueller . . . Bueller . . .
He did some incredible producing during his Wax Trax era. He should do more of that.
I’m fine with him making more music, but he should really go back and take notes of what he did in the 80s and 90s.
My biggest gripe is the constant release of live and remix albums. There is literally a TON of great material that remains unreleased. I’m sure his fanbase would rejoice if he ever released this material. Let’s face it, I don’t know a single person who is begging for more remixxxes or live material from the Bush Trilogy.
Yeah. it’s really lame because it has been the same 8 songs for the past 10 years.
doubt that this will happen, but I said in the other thread that with him living in LA, he should bust out the old synths and drum machines and get into the soundtrack business- do some John Carpenter sounding stuff. He could pull it off. Imagine a slower, instrumental version of "You Know What You Are? "
Whatever he chooses to do with his life from now on - may it be as cringeworthy as everything he has done since Skinny Boy left the band.
Amen.

Say goodbye to sobriety if you live in LA…substances are everywhere at any time
He should put out some unreleased material via Bandcamp or something. He could make serious coin doing so, not as much as he’d like but considering he’s not on a label something is better than nothing.
He should make his amends and apologies to Paul. Ten years is long enough.
And please, he should not do more production work. The man is nearly fucking deaf.
My money’s on him pursuing a solo career or opening a taco shop.

I am betting on colognes.[/reply]
He could call it “Taint No. 69” or some other nauseating name.
Why not resissue “in case you didn’t feel like showing up” on blu-ray/dvd, as well as “live - you godamn son of a bitch”
maybe even with all the tracks they cut out
does anyone know why the CD release is so truncated?

Also, I doubt there is that much of a demand for it. Most who listened to that stuff have moved on in life.[/reply]
I’ve moved on in life, sure, but truly great music can continue resonating with you even if you got into it at a time when you were an immature know-nothing (as I was when I first heard “In Case…”)
I still love both those releases not because they put me on a nostalgia trip, but because they epitomize an attitude and that keeps them fresh listening. YGSOAB is just an amazing, hilarious snapshot of end-of-the-world hedonism, I’ve enjoyed it even at times when life circumstances (e.g. “industrial”-hating romantic partners) forced me to shelve a lot of similar music.
I said “it’s me or the industrial”
he started beatboxing closer by NIN and pointed at the door
If it’s true, he got rid of the second wife…honestly people could not stand her insincerity or understand why he married her…
