Aliens and Bases on Mars

I haven’t been paying too much attention to the private sector space race. It just seems so … … commercial, in that it’s not about the discoveries or the invention It’s all profit driven and all about bragging rights for the money holders. It seems there’s nothing to be gained out of this other than bragging rights for the first space tourism (Although, Musk’s reusable rocket is definitely something special) .

NASA wants the discovery bragging rights and aren’t motivated by the profit margin.
Bezos had hardly touched down before he was yelling, “I was first I was first” and did he even make it a week before he was taking reservations and selling tickets? It’s just a big turn off to me.

That’s just fucking nutty I think you got it ass backward. Because the new tech they build on the Moon and Mars is going to drive innovation. It’s very much about invention and discovery. The entire strategy for sustained life on Mars is for them to patent new technologies. They will have to adapt to a new world with that comes invention. Necessity is the mother of invention.

NASA is governed by a buncha goofy bible belt senators that dont wanna outsource their rocket jobs so that they continue profiting off silly ass throw away rockets. These people are all about greed not about discovery.

You could be right. I hope you’re right. I just don’t have high hopes. I just foresee all these already rich motherfuckers getting into fights over licensing and patents and shit and it stalling and going nowhere or only rich people affording it.
Consider the LASIK surgery, there is not a doubt in my mind if that musk or bezos or gates developed that technology it would still be no where near affordable for normal people.
I really don’t think greed has done anything good for society. and to me that’s just what’s on display here.

I agree with all that, but I don’t really see a benevolent vision behind all of this. They’re gonna patent new technologies but that’s the point it’s not because there’s a necessity there it’s just for greed.

I gave Musk credit for his reusable rocket. I don’t think you’re wrong here, and I’ll raise you that nasa is filled with a bunch of engineering and astronomy snobs. BUT Nasa are scientists and they are subject to the same standards and protocols that come with funding that I wrote about in the “You think it came from a lab” thread. So, the engineers are beholden to funding, so if those bible belt senators don’t wanna fund reusable rockets theres not much anyone at NASA can do about it.

Greed or purpose? What purpose do people have anymore if we efficiant ourselves out of jobs? Senators want to keep their constituents employed so they can get reelected. Reusable rockets put manufacturers out of jobs…
