Al Jourgenson is going the way of Glenn Danzig…50 year old men playing juvenile, angsty, punk metal …ex Prong members jumping on board…dwindling fan base…embarrassing later period albums…unwillingness to adapt to a more ‘mature’ sound…claims of (HA!!) ‘this new material is our strongest yet’…and I could go on and on…
The real question is: will the next Ministry album sound anything like the laugh-a-minute, scary-for-all-the-wrong-reasons heavy metal ‘opus’ that was Danzig 9: Circle Of Snakes???
All jokes aside, that last Danzig album was actually listenable (unlike the 3 or 4 before it). I attribute this to Tommy’s presence so if he was such a catalyst for Danzig, people who are dissatisfied with Al’s recent musical output should be happy.
Personally I didnt mind Houses at all and I am looking forward to how Tommy’s huge guitar sound will augment Ministry’s (Al’s) music.
The only half decent Danzig album was the first one…just so long as you listen to the album without watching the puerile videos.
And yeah, there definitely ARE similarities between the two frontmen. You could also point out the fact that neither has been relevant since 1994 and that neither has anyone left from the original lineup (ok I realise the original Ministry lineup was back in 1983, but…oh you know what I mean).
But even Houses Of The Mole, as shambolic as it was and as indifferent as I am to it, does not even come close to being as terrible as the last two or three Danzig albums. I have a friend who is a huge Danzig/Misfits/ Samhain fan and he plays that stuff constantly. He’s even built a coffin and painted the Misfits logo on it. [crazy]
you mean like how trent adopted a more “mature” sound on with teeth? yeah, can’t wait for that.
i guess at least you can think of it this way: at least he’s still around making music (of arguable quility depending on the opinion) instead of becoming a rock cliche by overdosing or killing himself. props for that.
as far as danzig, i never paid attention to the guy anyways. that video where he has those stupid gauntlets on and holds them up to the screen the whole time sucks balls though.
