Just listening now…
Is Al ever sober. Ever? I mean…ever?
Whenever he’s in front of a camera or a microphone he’s wasted. He sounds like the drunk hobo guy, who sits on a milk crate outside the shopping centre, talking to himself and annoying everybody.
Fuck reading his book anyway. I imagine it will be nothing more than “…and so and so…what a loser. I hated him then and I hate him now.”.
It’s as if his “career” didn’t get going til The Last Sucker and everything before than was a waste of time, working with people who were a waste of time.
Shit interview. Rambling self congratulatory bullshit.
“One more tour with Tommy Victor”

I was thinking the same thing.
I had to stop after he said him and Jon Wiederhorn spent a week getting wasted.

Well said.
I can’t even be bothered listening. I find drunks to be fucking intolerable as it is. Even when I’m pissed, I try not to ramble. Peligro’s seen that and he’ll vouch for me.
Fucking takes forever to get to the point and goes on tangent after tangent after tangent before which you forget what the question originally was.
Jon Wiederhorn must’ve had a bitch of a job turning Al’s rants into an actual narrative text.

Give him the Nobel prize for literature.
within the first minute, he brags about being wasted while writing the book. sad.
within 5 mins, he admits to being hungover and drunk during the interview. the man needs help.
he really sounds alot slower than he does in the past, as if he’s had a stroke or brain damage (which wouldn’t be surprising considering what he’s put his body through) .
hate to say it but his time is limited if he doesn’t stop drinking.
Or, his time is limited and he just doesn’t care anymore. I’ll be amazed if he makes 60. But, with al, another year is probably a big accomplishment. Some addicts just can’t be helped though, no matter how hard anyone tries.
I’m actually REALLY glad I listened to that interview as I just received the book and the interview helps me get into the right mindset and aligned with my expectations.
This is NOT an Autobiography in the true sense. It’s not a self-examination of his life and a start to finish review of his history thus far. It is, as he noted, Wiederhorn’s collection of a bunch of Al’s drunkenly rambled stories with a bit of research and corroboration to clarify details.
That makes a LOT more sense to me. Granted, I was hoping for an open and honest baring of one’s soul and some insight into how it all went wrong with Barker and so forth, but that’s obviously not going to be anywhere in the book as he will only drunkenly tell the stories that he drunkenly damn well feels like telling.
The first thing I always do when I get a book is look at the pictures. At least they are NEW (i.e. not overly published or used before) but, predictably, there are NO BARKER photos, so . . . yeah, put those hopes in your little heart-shaped box and lock them away please.
This book . . . . it is what it is (or so is my prediction).
I’ll share more as I actually start reading, but I’m glad I heard the interview so I know what to expect and what NOT to expect.
To be continued . . . .
Ugh, that was a brutal listen. I remember taping the 120 Minutes interview in '89/90 (with Ogre and Atkins) - which is still on YouTube - and thinking how intelligent he sounded talking about the record industry. He actually mentions being “the redneck I am today” in the interview, but sure didn’t sound like one. His voice almost sounds like a time-stretch now. He’s slow, not very witty, and 100% drunken hillbilly. Hard to believe it’s the same guy. If only 1989 Al could have looked into a crystal ball to hear how he sounds today…egads.
I’m torn on buying the book. How big/small are the chapters on the WS-Twitch-Land era? I’m surprised that WS is listed in the discography, seeing that he doesn’t consider that part of his catalogue (I’m guessing that was out of his hands).

ah yes, anyone can summarize what is said about paul barker in the book btw?
I think we just did.

Based off the preview, there is surprisingly a good chunk of information on the With Sympathy and Wax Trax days. I’m not sure about Twitch and LORAH though.
Those early chapters are pretty decently sized, and represent the bulk of the book. (I’m not going to actually count pages) If anything, he rushes through the trilogy chapters and they are the shortest.
And there isn’t a Relapse chapter at all. (phew)

Right. So it ends after retirement.
Jumps from Last Sucker chapter to From Beer To Eternity chapter.
No discussion of Relapse (other than the tour) or Buck Satan album.

There is…but most of it is fiction. Even when considering the source I’m somewhat grateful I was at least painted in a, let’s say, not unfavorable light but…not much in the book about that era is remotely factual.

that’s a real shame. very misleading on his part too.
speaking of interviews, just came across this interview from 95, filth pig era. don’t recall seeing any interviews from that era but just to see the difference between then and now is sad in how he talks/thinks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHAChp7shLY
