My favorite Al J. quote: “I’m a lot of things, but I’m not a liar.”
“While I’m not a freaking juke box, we are playing a lot of songs,” he said. "We doing a bunch of the new works and then reaching back into the '80s and wrapping up with the '90s. We’ve got 24 songs in the set right now, and that translates into 2 1/2 hours of music.
that’s sad really
what a dumbass. i heard years ago, while i was working a different show in austin, that paul had to go pick up al’s kid at school a bunch of times b/c he and patti were unavailable. that sounds like a few words a year to me man.vile.
It’s like i have a mystery science theater thing going on now every time I read an Al interview
the mystery science theater angle’s brilliant. time to maybe skip the interviews and wait for the fallout.
never met a cartoonist or animator or robot model maker i didn’t like. yeah. round round round round, i get around…
‘Poontang’ is slang for ‘pussy’
al needs to teach the world to sing “poontang”.
who born before or after 1980 didn’t know that one?
i now officially designate big al as the “edumacator”.
he’s in line with g.wbush. fantasize about history and it will appear before your eyes. maybe the newly annointed edumacator will season his resume to all the colleges screaming for his services with this, “Poontang. I know it when I see it.”
“When I overcame heroin, I was able to enjoy my work,” he said. “I saw and heard things with clarity, and I was able to make smart choices about my music.”
Absolutely.
for the record-this is particularly offensive as -for my short time there-Paul was such an incredibly good friend to Al, Paul is the definition of team player, and is just incredibly friendly by nature (which explains why he has had no problem maintaining friendships his whole life) It’s my opinion that if Paul had not been there, Al would have passed away by now a long time ago. As well as all that, running around all over town in a freezing van making sure A.J. didn’t have to lift a finger and he could sit at home and whine to anyone who’d listen, Paul was the one who moved the gear, fixed the gear, booked rehearsal spaces, managed the personnel, and generally made it as easy as possible for all concerned, in my opinion, as well, he saved a lot of records
my opinion though
no jury.
nobody cares.
unfortunately.
The stooges are so much better than ministry
I’m confident a jury will see it that way.
It’s not a lawsuit about who carried gear or whatever. It’s boring, publishing rights type of stuff.
publishing? why and what for?
I don’t know the details, course. But that was my understanding - Al said he wasn’t getting the money he was supposed to. Paul still publishes under Spurburn, so I assumed it had something to do with that.
Then again, maybe I dreamed it.
“A few things are for sure,” Al says in conclusion. “It’s a fairly safe proposition. I’m not going to turn into a junkie or move away or have a girl ruin my life. I don’t want to do anything else. Everyone senses that stability – they don’t want to push something that’s going to blow up in their face.”
Does anyone have any nitty gritty on what’s going on? According to some old public documents they should have gone to trial by now (I think). Or has that been postponed due to the current Ministry tour?

Jury Trial
“It’s hard to make music with someone you hate,” Jourgensen said, with a laugh. “We probably said a total of seven words to each other every year. And most of those words included 'go to (beeping beep).”’
But it’s sure easy to make album after album about a guy you hate right? And those said albums just happen to be in your opinion the best work you ever did? right?
also they were probably the only ones you truly did write all the lyrics for too right?
uhm… makes sense
my understanding of publishing is if you get an advance for publishing, then your publisher sits around like you.they don’t get anything from anybody in the meantime.
maybe al doesn’t get that.didn’t he get advances?
i know this from various higher profile bands. al is about the business he now embarks upon and seems like he doesn’t have a clue, and not too many people around to help. they appear clueless as well.
I don’t get this. I can’t imagine why you would work with someone for the better part of 15 years if you hated them. As for Sanctuary and Warner Bros. Records, I’m sure they offered Al enough cash to sign. If he did it for the cash then why bitch about it now? I get the impression that Al’s record signings have tended to be about the cash, I mean, why were all the side projects on WaxTrax!? Was Ministry too big for WaxTrax! or did Al always expect Ministry to be his big ticket cash cow so it was only good enough for a major label. KMFDM my also have something to say about Sanctury so there may be something to it, but it’s my understanding Sasha signed with them because they have a better foothold in Europe.
It just seems to me that Al is a very bitter old man. I personally think this lawsuit is Al’s way at getting back at Paul for leaving.
As for the current records, maybe the only way to get them out there was to setup his own label. He get’s to keep all the money now, plus make money off the other bands he’s managed to sign.
I haven’t heard any of the suff that Paul’s put out since leaving, but it seems to get a better writeup than Al’s work.
sanctuary is considered a label where bands go to die
