Never saw this one:
Pretty sure someone posted that on here years ago. Good interview tho
Yeah. Finally someone reuploaded it.
So, I guess at one point the Blackouts were going to rebrand as Crucial?
awesome. thanks for sharing.
Yes, you have pleased the SLACK you may be allowed to remain… for a while. Carry on.
I bet the Crucial project is what became “Box Set” it was the same members, same time period.
Thanks for sharing this one. It’s really cool. This one always impressed me because of how quickly Al washed his hands of “With Sympathy” . The album came out in 1983 and by 1986 he was already fully entrenched in denying it and hating it.
El Cubano speaks perfect English that’s kinda remarkable to me. I know plenty of 1st and 2nd generation Hispanics with thick fucking accents. I’m guessing his white stepdad influenced him a ton on that front.
He was only like 3 years old when he moved over and his mom married some American dude a couple years later, so I’m guessing (been a long time since I’ve read his bio, so I don’t remember if it was even mentioned) they may not have even spoken much or any Spanish at home after maybe the first couple years.
That said, I’m really impressed with his speech in this era of interview too. It’s so clear and intelligent sounding. In recent decades he sounds like he’s trying to impress us by sounding even more wasted than he is. But earlier . . . yeah, dude is very well spoken and very sharp.
Thanks for sharing this!! Nice find. I recall this interview was on YouTube maybe 10 years ago for a few months and then it disappeared.
Too bad they scrapped the five track EP he mentioned. Is the remix of “The Angel” just the edited version that appeared on “Twitched” or something completely different?
It might be the short remix from Twitched, but Al claimed it was like an entirely different song. It could also be how they performed the song live, as some of the songs were a bit different on stage. I’d love to get some sort of official closure as it has been bugging me for years.
