i’m with fish on this one. i think she’s a sleaze bag, who knew how to fuck all the right people to get where she is. i feel bad for anyone who looks up to her.
i’m not sure if ian’s wife was involved, but hopefully she and her daughter get their share. this was to go along with the new jd documentary that was just released on dvd last week. i do know that she was very fond of this doc, while she despised that “control” movie that came out last year. i recommend seeing both if you are a fan. both dvds are available in stores and netflix (the doc is just called “joy division”).
i’m all for artists making money and tend not to jump on the “sell out” bandwagon but i do think that courtney is making a mockery of everything i liked about what kurt “appeared” to represent.
The Joy Division documentary is class, the best music documentary, maybe even the best documentary ive seen. My only gripe is that too often they print lyrics of the songs playing on the screen, no need for that. Its good that they focus on all band members and the Manchester environment and then obviously Ian’s decline becomes centre stage. Was good to see Annik Honore (his Belgian squeeze) for the first time too. JD’s music (particularly stuff from Closer) works so well in the film, really well done. It also showed Peter Saville (the sleeve designer) to be a bit of a sap which confirmed my suspicions. Il definitely be picking up this when its out on dvd.
There has been a few good music documentaries recently, the Joe Strummer one last year was quite good and the Leonard Cohen ‘Im your Man’ film is supposedly very good. Has anyone seen that one?
As for Courtney Love… well what an unsuitable surname that is; shes a rotten, ugly, festering eyesore who is devoid of talent. Most of her girl fans are usually desperate sluts. I know, cos I used to go out with a girl who was a big fan of hers. Embarrasing teenage years they were.

Did you see this in an interview or something? Deborah Curtis was one of the producers of “Control” and it was based on her book. The book has good stories but it really comes off as a bitter wife’s version of events and an attempt to cash in on being married to a very talented person. I could care less if this talentless hack sees any of the proceeds from anything joy division related. She’s made enough of a career off her husband’s greatness already.

She read and approved the script, co-produced the film, was present on set during filming, and has been interviewed about the movie where she said she approved of it. I haven’t seen her say anything negative about it in the press.

I actually just watched that last week. It’s more a documentary of the tribute concerts that Hal Wilner produced with some short sections on Cohen than a full-on doc about him. But it was pretty excellent. I’d recommend the soundtrack.

The Ultraman soundtracks really are awesome, the shows themselves are pretty cool too! I just rented a few volumes a couple of months back and was far more entertained by them than I’d expected to be.
