I read an interview with Peter Steele way back when he started the Type O Negative thing going. Someone asked him why the change from the extreme metal stuff of Carnivore to the broody gothic vampirey stuff and he said it was because there was no chicks at Carnivore shows. It was all hideous pimple faced boys. When they turned into dark moody gothy goths they got all kinds of hot gothy goth groupies.

I can sympathize with this sentiment, I really can. Up until about 2004, I thought the exact same thing. I guffawed when I first heard Lateralus. To these pink little ears it sounded all the world like the whiny, everybody-pay-attention-to-my-emotional-catharsis of Eddie Veder melded with the thumping bass driven groove of something like Rollins Band. Throw in some spacey, doo-hickey nonsense and voila - there’s Tool for ye! Yes it was very 90s - angsty and adolescent.
I use to think: oh yeah, here we go. I’ll bet all the mopey diet Billy Corgans of this world are wetting their pants right now listening to this namby pamby, woe-is-me slop!! What a joke!
Then I guess something clicked inside of me when I actually bothered to give it the time of day and I was hooked.
It is altogether a different beast than Godflesh. Both of them are equally good at what they do. It’s hard to compare the two. Tool are more ‘mediative’ whereas Godflesh is more bombastic. Both Pure and Lateralus are some of my favourite albums ever - always will be. Depends on what kind of mood I’m in when deciding which one to listen to.
And yes, I often look around at gigs I go to and think: jeez, we’re all so damn fugly!! I guess this is why they call this sort of thing ‘bedroom dweller’ music. 'Cos most of these hairy, sweaty beasts (myself included) should never be let out!

I think it was mostly that I deceived them and broke their fragile little hearts. I gave them an emotional roller coaster ride that left them cold and empty.
I joined as an eager rookie asking for suggestions on what album to listen to and such and they all were jumping up and down telling me about their favorites and why it’s the best and HOW I’m supposed to listen to it.
Meanwhile, my friend Akbar sent me a copy of “Streetcleaner” to review. I talked all about how excited I was that I’d ordered the album on Ebay and the Lanchers were so excited to hear what I thought.
Then I posted a review which just shredded the everliving dogcrap out of the album. A bunch of them cried their eyes out and screamed heresy while a few just shrugged. A couple said I didn’t listen to it properly, blah blah blah.
So, I later posted a re-review where I explained in heartpounding detail how I turned out all the lights in my house and layed on the cold floor while I let the music take me to another place and fill my soul and curdle my blood . . . . I went on with a bunch of gay ass emo stuff like this and they absolutely loved it. They thought I was Ralph Waldo Emerson reincarnated in Death Metal black or something.
Then after some time I changed my mind again and told them all it was crap.
Meanwhile, I also preached that the only TRUE Iron Maiden was with BLAYZE BAILEY and I also explained the beautiful aesthetics of Panic! At The Disco and other stuff that made them really pissy that someone could like GodFlesh and other gay stuff at the same time.
This carried on for some time (I think I lasted maybe a week or two) before getting banned and all my IP’s blocked so that I could no longer even go on board to see my wonderful havoc.
I made my GodFlesh videos at that time, but I don’t think I ever got them on the Lanchers forum.

I actually saw Godflesh live in 1992. They opened for Skinny Puppy on the Last Rights tour.
Godflesh just ain’t really my thing. I can appreciate parts of “Streetcleaner” at times. “Locust Furnace” is great when I’m in the mood. But I prefer songs that are more “songlike”.
I’ve tried to appreciate them more because Akbar and I are a couple of homos so I figured I owed it to him, but I just can’t get fully sold on the stuff. Seems more suited for soundtrack music than something I want to rock out to.
I guess I’m a double dipper. I’m on here and avalanchers. I dig Godflesh but not to the extent they do. First album I bought was a used copy of Selfless and thought it sucked except for Crush My Soul, which was the only real gem on there. Selfless happens to be very popular amongst Godflesh fans. That and Pure. I don’t remember liking Pure either, but then again I listened to it on youtube. I like the first EP and most of Streetcleaner. But after that it’s very hit or miss.
Each album has some good stuff on it, but they’ve never done a perfect full length album. The first EP is as close as it gets but it also got reissued with the horrendous Streetcleaner 2. Some songs on Streetcleaner are too repetitive. Songs Of Love And Hate was ok but had a lot of filler. Same with Us & Them, but that one had a little less filler. Never listened to Hymns but even the ppl at avalanchers shit on that album.
They almost totally worship JKB but they don’t like every single thing he does. There are some Jesu haters on there and the majority shit on has latest project Pale Sketcher. I went on there to try and fill the void that the hierophant left, but they obviously didn’t fill that void. Prongs is as close as it gets to filling that void, and that’s a big compliment coming from me(even if Manson haters are reading this).
Avalanchers is pretty much the land of the Godflesh worshipers and this place isn’t exactly the land of Ministry worshippers which I love. I’m mostly on there to find out about what’s going on with Godflesh and I’m here bc this is the new phant for me. No I’m not calling you guys a bunch of Manson worshipers. There were many ppl on there who hated Manson

Godflesh are great - but their fans try and make them out to be something they’re not (ie. The Second Coming). Abit like the crowd over at the old Piss Army gushing over those hideous W Trilogy Ministry albums.

If I remember rightly someone just became a mod on avalanchers and took it upon him/herself to ban Irons & myself. Probably for the best though as the madness couldn’t have lasted much longer.
