Actually, THIS is what Al wants us to buy now...

Got this in my inbox a few days ago… I see where he is going with this, but I’m not sure it’s gonna work. Most DJ’s are part of DJ-pools. Basically, you get free access to entire albums from labels like Metropolis, Alfa-Matrix, etc. To be part of this pool, you have to pay $150 up front.

1000 Homo DJs is the premier digitial music promo pool for industrial/goth/ebm music helmed by industrial-rock legend Al Jourgensen and 13th Planet Records, Inc. There is no cost whatsoever for labels to join & promote their music to our roster of carefully screened and hand-picked industrial/goth club DJs, radio jocks, and press outlets.

Record labels provide 1000 Homo DJs with advance, promotional material that we then electronically distribute to our hand selected recipients. Pool members submit feedback online that is available for the label(s) on the 1000 Homo DJs website. This feedback can be viewed by logging into our password accessed on-line feedback system. The reactions are posted to each account in real time as the DJs submit them.

Benefits to the label:

Buh?

It’s an interesting idea, but the pricetag to be a part of this is kinda ridiculous. There are such things like myspace and facebook now. If you want to get your music out there, just make a myspace, advertise the music, and present. Personally, i’d just throw out some music for free altogether and for the fuck of it.

Yeah, like their idea of starting a record label, Al and Angie are about 10 or 15 years behind on this.

I don’t get this…with so many things these days, like you said myspace, facebook…I’m sure there’s plenty of free internet or cheap internet radio stations…is this even necessary?

I’m a member of a record pool. I pay $99 a month for a ton of promo’s well before they hit the streets and some stuff that is promo only. Record pools aren’t designed for the average fan that could “just go to myspace”.

Record pools are for professional DJ’s only that spin in clubs. Its a way for them to get serviced all sorts of exclusive tracks before other people and typically at a much lower price.

Personally I think it would be pretty cool to get hooked up with a bunch of new industrial tracks and $50 is really pretty cheap as far as most pools go.

Thanks for the head’s up on this.

Professional Goth/Industrial DJ’s? Surely you can’t be a professional if you’re pulling in $20 a week.

Wow, $20 a week? Really? Surely that must have been a typo on your part. [laugh]

This is dumb. How am I to believe that Al has any true interest or expertise in discovering “industrial/goth/ebm music” when his own music hasn’t really had anything to do with those categories for ages, and he hasn’t signed a single true industrial or goth or EBM band to 13th Planet? I doubt that he listens to new industrial or goth or EBM in his free time at all.

Seems like just a cash-grab based on those being the genres who are most likely to know who he is.

The grainy low bit rate 1000 Homo DJs logo is enough to make me wary. It looks like a fan site circa 1998.

It no longer goes there. I wonder if it was an April Fools joke.

I kinda figured that’s what this was

I seriously doubt it was an april fool’s joke… it was originally emailed to me on March 24th.

Probably just an elaborate dupe

Maybe not.

I don’t really have an opinion on this.

Why did I bother posting?

[:|]

There was never any mention on PA or 13th Planet, and the contact address was in Denver. A fake In Case… DVD press release would’ve made for a better dupe. Of course, if I had thought of that a few days ago…[:|]

yea this is not a Al thing. it’s bullshit. They make you think that by the “press release” and their name. but if you go to their website, there is no ministry or al tunes listed anywhere. it’s not even an april fools joke - just a bad website - with a decent business model - but poor creativity, and marketing.

here’s their “artist” list…
http://www.ampedrecords.com/artists.htm

i know we joke around about al suing people - but i tell you - this is one instance where i hope he got either paid for this or sues these guys. i never like it when a company tries to “slip one by me”.

Gidget Gein did solo music?

Well the thing is, DJ Hardware is on their artist list and appears to be the manager of the artists signed. Also, the person who sent me this email (and who works for a particular booking company) had also solicited me to book the ReVamp tour and the coming Lords of Acid tour with the ReVamp guys, Stayte and False Icons.

Basically, I doubt it’s fake, but maybe they’ve pulled the plug on the idea.

I just thought the whole thing was worth posting in the first place, mainly for the whole “wtf?” aspect and the appearance of 13th Planet looking for an additional revenue stream.
