Absinthe ... Wow

Have any of you tried this? They’ve legalized it in the US (though not the most potent type). Wow. It is something else. Definitely drink this in moderation! I didn’t go crazy or anything but definitely felt like I never did before.

I’ve heard it doesn’t work. all it does is make you drunk…the way alcohol is supposed to do…so completely legal i can buy it in my local liquor store… is it expensive??

It doesn’t work like the old days (as they took out majority of the main chemical, thujone), no, but 2 drinks of this and you’re set for the night. I don’t really buy the fact that it makes one hallucinate, etc. It didn’t make me drunk really but I didn’t feel like I was with it. It was a weird feeling. A friend had 3 glasses of this and drank some beer throughout the night and he was out of commission for 3 days (!!), and he can drink. Another friend had just 1 and he felt it too (halfway through drinking his glass, he wasn’t fully aware of his surroundings but not in a drunk way) - though he’s not a drinker really. I didn’t mix it with anything else and just kept it to about 2.

I got them from Neo - he pours it with the sugar and water. I think he charges about $8-10 for it, but if you have a couple that should be good for the night.

Try it definitely but don’t mix it with anything else throughout the night.

I’m not much of a drinker either, so I’ll definately heed the advice. (Thank you) Although, I don’t know where I’d be able to get it out here in cali., unless they start stocking the shelves with it. I’m assuming neo is a bartender in your area? or a chain of bars that cali is not privy to. On the off chance that I can get ahold of some, do you know the actual mix ratio of sugar water to alchohol?

No, Neo is a club here (where Barker spun) - their website is hosted thru prongs actually. I don’t know the sugar/water ratio - it’s poured over sugar into the glass. Before this, he put water in a glass. I can’t recall the order but I’ll make sure to note it next time. Quite a few people order it.

Tried this for the first time a few months ago. I thought it was nasty, and almost unbearable. Very potent, and I barely made it through the first and only drink of it. I can imagine two drinks of this putting someone out. The drink cost me about 8, and they did the sugarcube and water thing with it, but they also set it on fire. I may try it again one day, but it just didn’t click at all with me that night. I, at least now know what to expect.

i tried this several years ago, a more “heady” & potent version of normal alcohol i’d say…
i think all the stories about this stuff are tied in with opium/laudnum(sp) use & exposure to lead of the 1800s…my experience was not psychedelic at all…me and a friend split a bottle so my dosage should have been high enough…if you’re curious i’d recommend trying it…but don’t expect it to live up to the hype…

Never been hard to find in Europe so Ive tried it many times before, in both variations.
Neither made me hallucinate but both are equally great for passing out.

It has always been legal in Portugal. I don’t drink it too often but I really enjoy it.

Tried it a few years ago, think it was the 80% stuff. Drank it straight because I cant be bothered to add in all these others things (like Tequila, which I guess is why I dont like it.) Feels really weird going down your gut, like its swirling around inside. Had to drink beer to calm it down.

mysfyt and i bought some in amsterdam and brought it home. it’s more than just drunk. an entirley different feeling. i hate black licorice taste, but i can handle this. so strong you must do one of the rituals.

first time i had it, i was in a bar in paris with maxmal. he asked the guy behind the bar to play some ministry, which he put on DSOTS, and away we drank. a little while later mysfyt notices on the wall that they serve absinthe shots. thusly my love affair was born. the bar tender put a sigar cube on the spoon, and poured a shot (a bit more) into the glass over the cube, then lit the cube on fire for a bit tio make it melty, then the user would add ice water to the drink to taste, dousing the flame with the water, and using the spoon then to mix the sugar melty cube into the drink.

max even brought us some fancy absinthe glasses and fancy looking absinthe spoons to go with it.

amazing stuff. if anyone ever has the means, i highly recommend it.

this is what we found. it was expensive as fuck though.

I used to order bottles from europe on occassion. Good drink. Poured over a sugar cube and then mixed with a 2 or 3 to 1 ration of ice water to it.

Absinthe is fun but all of the rumoured “effects” are a myth. It’s just really strong booze. There is not enough wormwood in it (even the top made european kinds) to cause any hallucinatory effects. The reason it was illegal in the US was not due to the DEA but the FDA. It was an FDA regulation that deals with wormwood being classed as a mild poison (which it is) and thus not being able to be sold in food or drink.

This myth stems, in part, from historical figures linked to it’s use, Charles Baudelaire and August Strindberg to name a couple, who were noted for abusing it, often starting in the morning and continuing all day, and often combining it with opiates and other substances. This combined with the mass vilification of it in the the early 20th century makes for a very entertaining and alluring myth about it’s supposed effects.

The main reason it seems different is that it generally has a much higher alcohol content than most other drinks (whiskey, vodka, gin etc) and consequently will wreck you much quicker. If you think you are “tripping” than it’s all in your mind because that’s what you want it to do.

Enjoy it in small doses for what it is. Really strong booze. Nothing more, nothing less.

I remember one time, S.L.U.G stayed up all night drinking pretty much a whole bottle of La Fee. He was up chatting to Scummy most of the night. He claimed he was totally switched on in his head but his body was all over the place, more so than when just generally shitfaced.
He came to bed a while later chanting what can only be described as German…

strange stuff absinthe. Even worse when mixed with Wine, tequila and beer…

I’ve never tried it either, although we’ve bought quite a few bottles in the past. One look at the state S.L.U.G gets into whilst drinking it, kinda puts me off…I’ll stick with cider

I think I tried it…not sure. FROM HELL has a great doc on the stuff.

There are so many misconceptions surrounding this drink that it’s quite annoying. Yes, Thujone is the main active ingredient.

Also it doesn’t make you hallucinate but it does make everything hazy and causes light sources to sort of glow differently (personally experience with REAL absinthe, not fake shit)

It’s like with shrooms. You’re not going to see a fucking pink rabbit. It just changes the way you view shit that’s already there.

The first time I had it I drank half a bottle with the water/sugar ritual slowly over a few hours.
You get drunk but it’s a different kind of drunk. Of course you don’t see a young version of your dead grandmother playing Twister with Megatron and Van Gough but the slightly glowey colours/light is true.
I went from feeling really monged out, like on weed to totally alert and back again, moments of clarity from talking complete crap like you do on E. Not the euphoria of E, just the bullshit talk and thinking you got the whole universe sorted out.
I woke up the next morning with no hangover too. Probably to do with all the water I was drinking with it.

Mixing it with other booze will just get you horribly, horribly drunk, like most of the other times I’ve had it. So if you want the effects, get some REAL absnithe and just stick to that.

Doing it with Redbull is quite fun too.

I’ve got a bottle of it at my house that a dabble into now and again… although:

Doing it with Redbull is quite fun too.

…sounds very tempting!

that would make me want to drink too… [:)]
