A Noob Intro

Hi all,

It’s probably cliche to admit but I’ve been lurking here a long time in the shadows and in awe of what goes on here on an almost daily basis, so I thought it about time I start posting. And what better way to start than to intro myself to the board.

A bit about myself - I’m early forties, work from home part time for an international IT company. I’m recently divorced, have two children and live in a small apartment in Sydney Australia. Previously, I have lived in Seattle, Madrid, Auckland, London and Helsinki, so I’ve seen a fair portion of the world. I’ve been through some heavy situations recently, both in my personal and professional life (including as mentioned, a divorce - which was ugly at the best of times, a court case and a retrenchment) but hopefully things are starting to look up again.

I’m a big Ministry fan from way back as far as 1990, when I was introduced to their music by a notorious neighborhood stoner. My favorite Ministry album would be Land Of Rape And Honey. But I’ve been known to dance around the apartment in my underwear, a la Tom Cruise, while listening to With Sympathy, which I think is a hellishly under appreciated gem.

I am a huge music enthusiast in general and have over 400 lps and 500 cds in my collection.

Some of my other favorite bands or artists apart from Ministry would be - Sonic Youth, Aphex Twin, Public Enemy, Led Zeppelin, Can, PJ Harvey, Wilco, Eric B & Rakim, Legendary Pink Dots, Current 93, Augustus Pablo, Velvet Underground, Massive Attack,The Stooges, Tool, The Scientists, The Beatles, Nirvana, Killing Joke and King Crimson.

I know, or rather I have learnt over time, that you guys have a definite love/hate Marilyn Manson and a love/hate NIN thing going on here. To add my 2 cents worth, I’m probably more suited to the hate camp when it comes to Marilyn M, but do admit to owning Mechanical Animals and sorta liking it. Not a big NIN fan other than the Broken ep, The Downward Spiral and The Fragile. The rest I could probably do without.

I must say, this board has some of the most amazing, articulate and downright intimidating characters I have ever encountered on any board ever, which is part of the reason I stayed silent for well over a year, despite coming here at least three or four times a week to check out what was happening. I had no idea where or how to start and wasn’t sure if a noob like me would be flamed for getting it all wrong and making an ass of myself. You all just seemed to interact so intimately. But I guess at some point you’ve just got to let go of the side of the pool and try and swim.

I used to frequent the DFFD board, but got tired of their petty, pedantic bullshit and decided to exit stage left. One of the guys that I was friendly with there, put me on to this site as he used to frequent here himself. He said it was pretty lively and there were quite a good mix of Aussies and Americans - unlike the DFFD board where I was the only “Skip”. He he he he.

Anyway I hope all is cool and look forward to joining in when and if I can. Feel free to discuss any thing you wish with me or flame me if you have a care. I’m pretty approachable and have a reasonably thick skin.

See you around.

Welcome aboard!

Yo. I lurked for a long time too. Sounds like you know what you’re getting into. So sweet fresh meat.

waddup homie

Welcome!!!

Welcome to being an active participant.

Welcome aboard, Dude! What was your favorite place you’ve lived so far?

admit to owning Mechanical Animals and sorta liking it.

you’re sorta starting out ok, but void already hates you for not liking brian warner.
Pro Tip: Don’t stand to close to void his breath smells like shit.

wasn’t sure if a noob like me would be flamed for getting it all wrong and making an ass of myself.

We haven’t had anybody new in a year? come on man you should know we give you a two post pass…

We bust a lot of balls but I don’t think any of it is too deep. I’d be sad if anybody left or was hurt. I’m sure DjPon3 will shoot himself on accident any day now and I will be sad for that but I will still post a pile shit fir him to read through about it.

Good to you have you here.

Late,
grmpysmrf

Yeah, I’m a noob and they’ve welcomed me fairly well. And shit, I even said something bad about Dark Side of the Spoon! Heh.

Hello!

TLDR

But welcome.

HiYA!!!

Run!!

Run. Get out of here while you’re still able, Sydney Man!!

What’s your favorite Nirvana album and why is it In Utero?

Welcome. I lurked here a good five years and had my qualms about putting my dick in the stew for similar reasons. Don’t say anything favorable about Paul Barker or you’ll be accused of being a fanboy.

Welcome aboard! Don’t listen to what they say I am the nicest (and best looking) person on the forum. Oh and that “turd” was a snickers bar…

Oh and that “turd” was a snickers bar…

HA HA I knew you’d try to run away from it sooner or later.

Word of advice. Ignore the Prongs’ resident “mean girl” ^ right there unless you share the exact same opinions. An insolent drama queen, obsessive internet tough guy, and long-winded whiner.

Oh, no… Whatever have I done…?

Why Atom would call himself a mean girl and long winded is beyond me… Although he is fairly new and thinks he runs the place so perhaps its the drugs/split personality talking… either way he’s harmless… Just think of him as one of those little yapp dogs that stands at the door shaking and barking but then runs whenever the bigger dogs show up.

Oh, I’m well aware of the grmpysmrf “phenomenon” on this board.

Trust me.

Can’t say I agree with his brand of rhetoric, but we’ll see how we go. I’m not here to rock any boats at the end of the day.

And my favourite Nirvana? Sorry if I sound fanboyish but they are an amazing band with an amazing legacy, each album representing a different piece in their puzzle. It’s hard to go past Nevermind in terms of a “favourite”, though. The production’s insane and musically it’s their most positive and uplifting. In Utero’s a fantastic album but it’s a bit of a grumbling downer compared to its predecessor. It’s almost as if it’s intentionally atonal and difficult. Maybe they did this to spite their fanbase? Yeah probably.
