I figured someone here might have an idea about what I’m talking about.
I saw a video a while ago on Youtube. It was someone’s solo project, associated with the industrial/alt-rock scene. The video was black/white, some dude wearing wings and it was vaguely reminiscient of NiN’s Closer, but it was clean and the sound was more towards rock rather than electronic machines. Lyrics were more philosophical than anything.
The era is 90s, 94-95ish.
Reason I’m asking here is because I’m 98% sure this guy was associated with Filter/NiN/Ministry, or some other link to the “big ones”. But he didn’t make a splash, so I can’t for the life of me remember who he was.
Nope. Not him. Hairstyle, he looked very similar to Reznor, long hair to the sides. But musically, it sounded more Einsturzende Neubauten, post 2000 - low key alt. rock more.
That Prick album was really cool. It was interesting to hear what Trent’s former mentor sounded like.
The guy recorded a second album but nothing didn’t want to put it out because it wasn’t commercial at all. I’m 85% sure the Mountain Goats song “Shelved” is a fictionalized version of this, but I can’t be certain.
The first Prick album is very good. The second one is… it’s not so much anti-commercial as it is anti-melody. I don’t like it, it doesn’t hit the ears right at all.
